RVP blames media shunning on Arsenal

Newly-appointed Netherlands captain Robin van Persie has claimed that he was forced by former club Arsenal to ignore the media during Euro 2012.

Van Persie, 29, who replaced Wesley Sneijder as the Oranje skipper earlier this week, was criticised for staying silent during last summer's tournament.

The Manchester United striker, however, insists it was a decision made by the Gunners as, at the time, he was on the verge of completing a move to Old Trafford.
