Putin allows World Cup alcohol

Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted permission for alcohol to be sold at the 2018 World Cup.

Russia has banned the sale of alcohol at sporting events since 2005, but Putin had indicated in January that he would rethink that policy for the tournament in the country, and the "World Cup Law" now provides an exemption.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter had said in January: "Beer is like a part of life. Can you imagine holding a championship in Germany without beer?"
