Russian Svitov released from military commitment

TAMPA, Florida -- The Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday finalized the signing of center Alexander Svitov, their first-round pick in the 2001 draft who has been released from further military commitment.

The standard three-year rookie contract was originally signed by Svitov last July and may now be registered by the NHL, according to Lightning general manager Jay Feaster.
