Club wants U.S. midfielder available for final game

LONDON -- The Fulham soccer team defended keeping U.S. World Cup player Eddie Lewis with the club until the end of its season.

Fulham, with a victory over Blackburn on May 11, could finish in 10th place in the English Premier League and qualify for the Intertoto Cup -- a route to UEFA Cup qualification.

A spokesman for Fulham said manager Jean Tigana wanted Lewis available for the game.
