McDermott leaves Royals

Reading have announced the departure of manager Brian McDermott.

Reading are 19th in the Premier League, level on points with bottom club Queens Park Rangers, after their 2-1 defeat at home to relegation rivals Aston Villa on Saturday.

That was a fourth loss in succession for the Royals, leaving them four points adrift of 17th-placed Villa, and the club's owner Anton Zingarevich decided a change was needed.
