Popovich will narrow duties to just coaching

SAN ANTONIO -- R.C. Buford, assistant general manager of the San Antonio Spurs, will move up to the general manager's position for the 2002-03 season, the team announced Saturday.

Buford, who has been with the team on and off since the late 1980s, will succeed Gregg Popovich on July 1. Popovich is also the Spurs coach.
