Mets' Franco will reportedly start 2002 on DL

Mets reliever John Franco will start the season on the disabled list and could be out until May, or longer, according to a Friday report in the Newark Star-Ledger.

After undergoing elbow surgery during the offseason, Franco has experienced pain in his left arm in spring training.

General manager Steve Phillips said Thursday the 41-year-old left-hander won't throw for at least five days.
