Roy Hodgson on Thursday named Ryan Shawcross, Kieran Gibbs and Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster to his England squad for the UEFA World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland Oct. 12 and 16.

After John Terry retired from international football last month, the selection of a fourth central defender was pending.
