There is a school of thought that defending a title is a tougher test than the initial winning of the prize. Manchester City, after their rapid recent ascent, are now "the team that everyone wants to beat" - as though clubs weren't all that fussed about victory before. There is credence, though, in this cliche, for City now have the Premier League title as well as money, and rivals will be eager to loosen that grip.
