Gareth Southgate to leave FA role

Gareth Southgate is to leave the Football Association after 18 months as the organisation's head of elite development.

The former England player had been earmarked for the role of technical director, but has said he no longer wishes to be considered for the post.

In a statement, Southgate - who has combined his FA work with a career as a TV pundit, which he will continue - said: "I'd like to place on record just how much I've enjoyed working at the FA over the past 18 months. ...
