The two sides produced a real, hard-fought encounter tonight. West Ham took the lead twice but were pegged back on both occasions. United went in search of a late winner but some top defending and some good goalkeeping kept the scores level.
And there goes the full-time whistle.
Taylor latches onto the end of a poor Carrick pass and looks to be through on goal. He is closed down by Vidic so attempts to shoot from distance but he blazes his effort well over the bar.
Giggs finds Hernandez in the box. The striker looks like he is about to find the winner but Carroll of all people is there to make a vital challenge.
Four minutes of injury time to be played...
Van Persie flicks on Giggs' cross. Valencia tries to get the shot in but West Ham do well to close him down.
Collison fires in a cross from the right and Carrick is there to get the block in. It seems to hit the United man's arm but the referee waves play on.
Giggs picks up the ball on the left for United, but his first cross is poor and his second attempt is cleared by West Ham.
Van Persie has a shot from well outside the box but he sends it high and wide.
It is all United as we enter the final five minutes. Enough time for them to find a winner?
Some lovely interplay between Rafael and Hernandez sees the Mexican eventually rifle an effort in on goal only for Collins to make an excellent block.
Van Persie sends the corner in but West Ham do well to head clear.
United win another corner after some good work from Valencia down the right.

West Ham make a double change as Nolan and Diame make way for Taylor and Collison.
Carrick spots the run of Hernandez with a lovely ball into the box. The striker rises to fire a header in on goal but Jaaskelainen pulls off a decent stop.
Valencia gets another cross in from the right. Van Persie gets on the end of it but is unable to trouble Jaaskelainen in goal.
Have West Ham got it in them to take the lead for a third time? Or will United push on for another?
Van Persie looked to be offside as Kagawa struck his shot in the lead-up to the goal. It does not matter though and the linesman failed to spot it.
Hernandez comes on for United to replace Kagawa.
A superb turn and shot from Kagawa on the edge of the box that hits one post and rolls along the line before hitting the other and bouncing out. Van Persie is there, however, to fire home the rebound.

West Ham do well to head clear Valencia's cross in from the right. It falls to Giggs on the edge of the box but instead of shooting he looks for the pass and soon loses it.
West Ham starting to see more of the ball again now which is frustrating the away side.
It must be time for Hernandez to come on surely?
Some lovely passing from United soon sees Giggs with the ball on the left. He tries to find Van Persie at the far post but his cross is overhit.
United bring on Giggs for Rooney. It has not been the striker's finest game tonight.
United passing and probing until Rafael eventually gets hold of the ball. But he wastes possession as he blasts his strike over the bar.
Valencia picks out Van Persie with a fine ball into the middle but Jaaskelainen produces another top save to deny the striker as he tips his header over the bar.
Giggs looks as if he is about to come on for United in a minute or two.
And Noble does come on, replacing O'Neil for West Ham.

Carrick passes the ball out wide to Rafael who is in plenty of space but still manages to miscontrol it and the ball runs out for the throw-in.

United counter through Rafael, who plays an excellent pass to Valencia in space on the right. The winger picks out Van Persie in the middle with a fine cross but Jaaskelainen denies him with a top save. The Dutchman was offside anyway, though.
Carrick finds Van Persie in space on the edge of the box. The striker shapes to shoot before being sandwiched by two West Ham players. Ouch.
United go right back up the other end but the move comes to a halt as Kagawa struggles to get his shot at goal away. This is game on.
United have to come from behind again. Can they summon the strength, or will West Ham hit them while they are down and score another?
Diame picks up the ball from Demel and turns Rooney on the edgeof the box before curling an effort straight into the bottom corner. Excellent finish, De Gea no chance.

Collins attempts to play an early free-kick forward to release Carroll but the referee orders him to take it again.
West Ham are really putting United on the back foot now. The away side do not know what to do with themselves at the moment.
Carroll with an excellent effort from distance that hits the side netting. De Gea was scrambling to reach it.
Carroll goes into the book for jumping into De Gea. Harsh, but he has been doing it to the goalkeeper all game.
Another cross is fired into the United box. Jones fails to deal with it and it falls at the feet of Carroll but the striker is unable to bring the ball under control.
Diame's turn to send a cross into the United box but once again Vidic is there to head clear.
A very lively start to this second half. Let's hope for more of the same.
Jarvis sends a very dangerous ball into the United box but Vidic is there to make a superb headed clearance with Nolan breathing down his neck.
Rooney picks out Van Persie at the back post with a fine ball forward. The striker heads it into the path of Jones in the middle but the Englishman fails to make proper contact with his shot. Great chance.
United get this second half underway. Neither team have made any changes.

And there goes the half-time whistle. An entertaining first half, with West Ham taking an early lead before United fought back to equalise. As it stands, the second 45 minutes could go either way.
De Gea manages to punch clear the corner under plenty of pressure from West Ham players. The referee blows for a foul. Fergie on the touchline is furious.

Collins lofts forward a free-kick from deep. Ferdinand gets his head to it but can only concede the corner.
Collins plays the ball into Nolan's feet in the United penalty box. The midfielder goes down under a push from Vidic but the referee waves play on. A penalty would have been harsh.
West Ham's turn to attack as Demel advances down the right. He whips in a cross and finds Carroll but the striker fails to get enough contact on his header to cause any problems.
Carrick finds room for the shot from the edge of the area after turning Collins but his effort canons off Reid.
Jarvis does well to manage to hook in a cross from the left. Carroll tries to get on the end of it but Vidic does enough to put the striker off.
United really dominating the possession now. West Ham having to play on the counter-attack.
West Ham with a great chance as Vidic slips and concedes possession but it is wasted as Vaz Te fails to find Carroll with a simple pass.

United are into their rhythm now. Jones makes his way down the right and nearly picks out the run of Van Persie in the middle but the striker is just unable to get his head on it.
A superb move from United as Van Persie picks out Kagawa, after playing the ball through the legs of Collins. The Japan international beats a man with a beautiful touch before squaring it to Valencia who has an empty net to aim at.

Carrick is the next United player to waste possession. They are playing to the Hammers' hands at the moment.
Valencia plays the ball to Van Persie on the right. The striker tries to drive past O'Brien but the defender simply sticks his leg out and wins back possession.
Rooney finds the run of Evra with a clever ball. The left-back drives into the box and tries to square it to Kagawa in the middle but Demel does well to make the vital interception.
Carroll wins a flick-on from a long ball and Jarvis looks to be away in space down the right. The referee stops play, however, for offside.
United have been very wasteful in possession over the last few minutes. They have struggled to really click into gear so far.
Carroll has been a real menace for the United defence so far. Every time there has been a cross into the box he has managed to make his presence felt.
United have not looked too dangerous in the final third as of yet. West Ham, meanwhile, look like causing havoc every time they get forward.
Rooney plays a long ball forward and finds Valencia but the United man is unable to control the pass and West Ham soon clear the danger.

What sort of response will we see from United? Stoke made it easy for them on Sunday by conceding an early goal. It is a very different proposition now as they have to go chasing the game.
