Athletic looked home and dry, and then one corner changes the complexion of the tie. Maybe, just maybe, Valencia now just have a sniff of going through.
So a game with a goal at the death of injury time in both halves. What drama!
Dominguez is booked in the aftermath of the goal.
And that's full-time!
It's a goal which could Costa Atletico! Tino Costa's corner, Courtois slipped and there was Ricardo Costa with the simple task of heading home a crucial second for Valencia!
GOAL RICARDO COSTA!
Piati goes down very softly in the box under the challenge of Miranda. It's no penalty but they get a corner.
A Mexican waves goes around the Vicente Calderon as the home fans begin to dream of a trip to Bucharest next month.
Awful show from Tino Costa 22 yards out, slashing a shot way into the stand to the right.
Well shows what I know, four added minutes.
A final change for Atletico as Salvio is on for Adrian, another of tonight's heroes.
Can't image there will be too much injury time - and Valencia will be glad of that.
Diego goes off to a huge ovation and Perea is on in his place.
Atletico have two subs left to run down the clock.
Atletico look happy with this now, not pushing the pace any more.
After that goal I'll have to snatch the man of the match award back from Diego and give it to two-goal Falcao.
Valencia are on their knees now. That Falcao goal the kind of body blow which surely they cannot come back from.
Atletico Madrid have scored more goals in the last 15 minutes of games than any other side in this season's Europa League.
Radamel Falcao joins Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as the top scorers in the main phase of this season's Europa League. Both have netted 10 times.
Tiago comes on for the impressive Turan
You really have to make sure you see that Falcao goal. Top, top drawer stuff. Foot like a traction engine.
During the celebrations Jonas was replaced by Aduriz.
Falcao is played in over the top and he chests it forward, using his power to stay ahead of the defence. He cuts back inside onto his left, it looks as though there's nothing on and then smacks an unbelievable effort in off the underside of the bar in the right corner.
GOAL WHAT A STRIKE FROM FALCAO! AMAZING!
Diego might not have scored here, but he is a top contender for man of the match.
Another poor cross from Felipe. It doesn't go behind for a goal-kick this time, it's a throw with too much on the effort.
Poor cross from Felipe with Falcao in a dangerous position - but straight out of play.
Valencia looking for a vital second away goal.
Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao vies with Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves
Canales and Piati are on for Feghouli and Jordi Alba
Great run by Diego, cutting in from the left but his right-footed effort does well to not go for a throw.
Alves is there to fist away the resulting corner.
Great save by Alves, jumping high to his left to push Diego's free-kick behind.
Diego is tripped 22 yards out by Tino Costa. Another great chance for Atletico.
So 70 minutes gone and amazingly no changes!
Goalkeeper Alves is booked - not sure why. That's his seventh of the season overall.

Falcao shoots from outside the box, it forces Alves to make the save. He fails to hold it and Turan is there for the follow-up - he can only smash an effort at the keeper.
Another scramble in the Athletic box, nothing comes of it and Valencia never have control of the move.
Topal is late there on Turan. Lucky not to get booked.
The free-kick comes in, there's a scramble in the box and it could go anywhere until JuanFran hacks away.
Jonas wins a free-kick against Miranda which may as well be a corner.
Atletic fans doing what you could call the "reverse Poznan".
Free-kick to Valencia. Tino Costa floats it to the back post and Courtois has to force Ricardo Costa's effort away. Could have scored there.
Atletico full of confidence now.
Jordi Alba looked to throw an arm at Juanfran there is frustration. Nothing given against him for that though.
Now Gabi is down under a Tino Costa challenge. This could get fiesty.
Tino Costa and Gabi have words after a tackle. Neither are shrinking violets.
Well, I said Atletico need goals - and they've just got two in five minutes.
Superb, diagonal run from Adrian after Topal gave the ball away. No mistake from him this time, Adrian bursting into the box and racing past Ruiz to fire across Alves and into the opposite corner.
The one previous European tie between Atlético Madrid and Valencia CF took place in a season in which Atlético won the Europa League (09/10)
Soldado is down with a head injury after an aerial challenge with Dominguez. Touch of the Drogbas here.
Shot from Costa, it dribbles along the ground to Courtois.
Adrian breaks forward through the centre. He has excellent options to his left but opts to shoot from 25 yards and drags it well wide to the left. Greedy and wasteful.
That all came from the latest in a long line of needless fouls from Feghouli.
Intelligent free-kick from Diego, opting to chip into the box rather than shoot. Valencia pushed up but Rami stayed - that left Miranda unmarked in the centre of goal eight yards out and he headed home.
ANOTHER foul Sofiane Feghouli - he must be on the brink. He brings down Diego just outside the box. Chance here.
Turan produces a cross from the right, there's a bit of panic from the Valencia defence but no real danger.
No changes at the break. Atletico need to go for it.
And Valencia start the second half.
The teams are back out.
An even game, this could go either way. Remember you can follow me on Twitter: @dalejohnsonESPN
Valencia claimed their vital away goal two and a half minutes into what should have been one added minute. The extra time came from Gabi's bloodied nose.
And that's half-time.
The corner comes in from the left, and it's that man Rami who flicks it on to the far post and Jonas taps home from two yards out.
Long free-kick floated in to Rami who goes up for it. Courtois flaps a bit and there's handbags - but it's a corner to Valencia.
We were not told the injury time.
At the start of that move Feghouli caught Gabi with an arm - and the Atletico man has a bloody nose - but there was no free-kick given.
Valencia had the chance to break with Mario Suarez. He lacks pace to stretch the defence and the opposition catch up. It ends with a Jonas shot a few yards over.
Costa is lucky to avoid a booking for a late foul on Adrian.
Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao celebrates opening the scoring against Valencia
Turan with the shot from outside the box, well off target,
Feghouli with another trip on Gabi there.
Corner to Atletico as we move towards the break. Diego takes and Mathieu heads away at the near post once again.
This is a very even game now. How a match can change.
Turan goes into the book for a foul on Costa.
Rami's error lets in Adrian through the centre and he looks clear - but he's got no pace and Mathieu is back to win the ball easily.
Atletico Madrid's Diego heads at goal against Valencia
Cross from the left bu Turan this time - it's harmless but Ruiz slices his clearance over the top for a corner (that's headed clear at the near post).
Fine ball from Turan looking for an intelligent run to the near post by Diego - who just fails to connect with an outstretched leg and Alves claims.
Header from Soldado this time, it's from well out and always going well wide.
Diego with a fine pass trying to slip in Turan - Jordi Alba is back to make a fine interception and Alves hoofs away.
The corner is played in from the left, Rami is unmarked and wins the header at the near post and sends it just a yard wide of the opposite post. So close!
So close by Rami!
Another corner to Valencia, good work by Jordi Alba.
Improvement by Valencia over the last five minutes - and boy did they need it.
Atlético Madrid have won 14 of their 16 matches in European competition this season.
Diego takes the corner, Alves fists away.
Topal needlessly gives away a corner, heading it behind when Alves was coming to catch with ease.
Gabi is helped off by the physios, he looks like he wants to come back on.
Feghouli goes in for a header with Gabi and it's the Atletico man who comes off worse and needs treatment. He's got a shoulder injury.
Cross from Costa, Jonas wins the header when free but can only nod into Courtois' hands.
Costa takes from the right, he takes it low on the ground and it is cleared at the near post.
First corner of the game for Valencia.
Jonas has it on the right and Valencia look dangerous. He has the chance to cross from the left and puts it over the top of everyone.
Now Falcao jumps with Topal and gives away a free-kick the other way in the centre of the park, but it comes to nothing.
A tug by Turan on Mathieu - free-kick.
That goal had definitely been coming, and you can only see a comfortable win if it carries on like this.
If Falcao scores two more goals in this campaign he'll become the first player to be top scorer in two successive UEFA Cup/Europa League campaigns.
Turan does brilliantly to pressure Rami on the byline. Rami hesitates and Turan manages to wrap his foot around and deliver a ball back - Falcao heads home with ease into the corner.
Turan plays a short pass for Adrian to shoot on the edge of the box - he completely misses his kick and the ball hits his standing foot. Woeful!
Feghouli has to get his tackle right on Felipe this time as the Atletico man broke into the box and he did.
Diego whips it in, Soldado heads it behind for a corner. It's played in from the left - straight into the gloves of Alves.
Feghouli tugs back Kasmirski on the left outside the box.
Ricardo Costa gets forward but can only produce a weak shot.
Soldado tries to break through the centre - good defending ends his run.
Feghouli tries to burst down the right wing, Diego is there tracking back to make the challenge and actually wins a goal-kick.
Diego cuts in well and fires low at Alves - an easy save.
Gabi trips Alberto Costa - free-kick.
Turan latches on to a ball win and he almost cuts it back but Jordi Alba gets in a block.
It's a bit scrappy at the moment.
Atletico will hope to take a strong lead to Valencia next week - and hope not to have an away goal against them.
Atletico getting on top, they cry for a corner from their next attack but it's not given. Goal kick. Falcao not happy.
Diego is left in acres of space in the box and meets the pull-back - Alves makes the save! That should have been a goal.
It's an even start here, both teams enjoying possession and looking to probe.
And we're off!
Valencia head into tomorrow's match on the back of an inconsistent run of form which has seen them lose four of their last eight competitive matches while winning just twice.
Falcao has proven deadly in the Champions League.
