Referee: Lee Probert
FULL TIME Gutierrez fires in a dribbler as a superb game comes to an end after a breathless finish. A draw the right result. A decent advert for the Premier League.
Ameobi howls for a penalty as he gets into the area and crosses. Nothing doing.
Amoebi crosses and Assou-Ekotto clears from Ben Arfa.
Another great run from Gutierrez causes panic and Ben Arfa narrowly fails to intercept a pass.
What a miss! A great free kick from Taylor, Coloccini slides in before Ameobi squirts the ball back to the defender and on the spin, from four yards out he has shanked it wide.
Gutierrez wins another free kick and Modric is booked for persistent fouling I would guess.
Five minutes added - a roar goes up from the crowd...
Adebayor is off and Pavlyuchenko is on.
What a passage of play! Newcastle lose possession, Defoe is in but a great sliding tackle from Coloccini denies him, then Defoe's follow up is saved by Krul before a header from Santon back to his keeper nearly loops into the net!
Modric lurks upfield and swaps passes with Bale but his effort is scuffed and Krul saves easily. A good game of football this.
A finish just as emphatic as Defoe's - Cabaye slips him into the area but he has plenty to do and lashes a left-footed shot into the bottom corner. Great finish.
GOAL Ameobi equalises!
Splendid run from Walker as he bursts from one end of the field to the other but Coloccini stands firm and does well to rob the ball.
A huge let off for Newcastle as Parker breaks, he feeds Adebayor and Defoe was free to his left but he delayed the pass and lost the opportunity.
Fridel saves Taylor's effort at the near post and now Bale races away...
Parker brings down Tiote now and Newcastle have a free kick on the right edge of the box.
Tiote fires in a shot that is right at Friedel but he tips it over.
Neat from Ben Arfa and a ball in from Obertan but Friedel collects near post.
Now a wild shot from Walker as he intercepted a ball in midfield.
A wild lunge from Tiote on Modric. The inevitable booking.
Ben Arfa is trying to do too much with the ball when he gets it. He should have crossed first time then but delayed to try and beat another man.
The Italian goes straight to right back. His first assignment in English football is to mark Gareth Bale.
Simpson comes off and Santon comes on.
Davide Santon looks like he's about to get a Newcastle debut.
Poor tackle from Parker on Ameobi. Free kick and booking.
Newcastle looking shaky now as Adebayor wants another penalty for a nudge from Coloccini as a Bale cross came in.
Double change for Newcastle, Best and Ba head off and Ameobi and Ben Arfa come on.
Now Defoe hits the side-netting when it looked like he was offside anyway.
Four minutes it took for Defoe to score after coming on. Poor defending from Ryan Taylor though, allowing the striker to turn too easily.
A lovely turn and finish from Defoe as Parker fed him, Krul denied him a moment ago but not his time as his shot arrows into the far corner.
GOAL Defoe with a fine finish!
Coolly done from Krul as Parker played a superb ball in for Defoe. The keeper stepped out and got to it first.
Walker wins a goal kick off Gutierrez and seems to be looking a little more comfortable on his ankle.
Van der Vaart slopes off as Defoe comes on. He does shake Harry's hand though.
Now Tiote is down clutching an ankle after turning it. Meanwhile, Walker continues to hobble around.
Newcastle sloppy in possession - a dangerous game against Tottenham.
Walker hobbles off slowly, to much abuse from the home support. Defoe is stripped and ready but the change is on hold for now I think.
A painful one for Kyle Walker as he turns his ankle in a challenge with Ryan Taylor.
Another disappointing run from Obertan ends in him losing possession and giving away a foul. Ben Arfa time?
Van der Vaart should have scored. Newcastle stopped as they thought the ball had gone out of play, the ref said it hadn't and Modric fed VDv but his tame shot was right at Krul.
Decent effort from Obertan as he picks up a Bassong header. Never really threatening goal but well hit and not too far away.
Obertan does well to track Bale after Tiote had handed Tottenham possession.
Space for Bale but his cross is half blocked by Simpson before Coloccini whacks it clear.
So close for Adebayor! Modric feeds it through to him and his touch wasn't great but his shot across goal is only a foot wide of the far post.
Ba is in the thick of it again as he tussles with Bassong. Before that Adebayor's clever dink into the area was gathered by Krul.
Ba looks right up for this as he tries to chase down a long ball from Coloccini.
That's five goals in three games for Ba. Settling in.
Handbags between Livermore and Cabaye after the Newcastle man was late into a tackle. Lucky not to get carded in truth.
Great work from Gutierrez on the left, beating two and delivering a superb ball for Ba whose shot is gathered by Friedel but his momentum takes him well over the line.
GOAL Ba equalises!
We begin again....
HALF TIME An even game and Steven Taylor's mistake has made the difference - Van der Vaart slotting the pen coolly.
Gutierrez does very well to squirm away from two players and he feeds Cabaye but an errant lay-off from him renders the opportunity lost.
The game is a bit stretched after the goal and Spurs were briefly two on two then - if only Adebayor could have slipped the ball to Bale in space.
Ba rises highest to meet Cabaye's corner but he can't keep it down.
Obertan gets down the other end and wins a corner.
GOAL Van der Vaart scores.
A stray leg out from the defender and a nailed on penalty. VDV to take.
SPURS PENALTY Taylor on Adebayor and the right decision.
Excellent interception from Coloccini as Modric slipped a clever ball towards Adebayor.
Assou-Ekotto makes a mug of the whole hearted Tiote, not once but twice.
Taylor's long free kick nearly reaches namesake Steven but Kaboul nods it behind.
I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again - this game needs a goal.
Excellent ball over the top from Tiote and Best does well to win a corner.
Cabaye finds room for a shot but this one is wild and wide - not up to his usual standard.
Another lazy offside flag, as Gutierrez wanders a yard off just before Taylor fed him.
No disrespect to Bassong but you'd have to think Spurs will be less solid at the back without Ledley.
Looks like Ledley King's race is run. Such a shame for him and for Spurs. Bassong replaces him.
Wasteful again for Newcastle as Ba tries to find Gutierrez but Walker does very well to run the ball out of play.
Obertan gives the ball away needlessly again.
I wonder at what stage Hatem Ben Arfa will be introduced?
Obertan does well down the right but again the flag goes up against a Newcastle striker.
The linesman awards Newcastle a free-kick when Lee Probert wasn't going to give it. Chance to get a ball in the box.
Header on goal from Ba as Coloccini crossed but a regulation save.
Good ball from Cabaye for Obertan - Newcastle win the corner.
Gutierrez finds Ba but the striker's return ball isn't particularly good.
Bit of a lull in the game after a bright start.
Leon Best seems almost physically incapable of staying onside.
Newcastle settling a bit better now but Spurs still looking the more dangerous.
Good defence from Gutierrez as Bale and Adebayor linked up then great battling from Ba to turn Kaboul and win a throw.
Ryan Taylor covers well as VDV looks for Adebayor. Bale looks to be limping.
Ba tries to slide a ball through for Best, he stopped but the ball bounced free after Kaboul had got there. Crowd not happy at him.
Tiote tries to get tight on Modric but is late and concedes a free kick.
Well held from Friedel as Taylor's free kick from the left wing bounced just in front of him.
Livermore and Parker dominating Tiote and Cabaye so far.
Tottenham dominant here. Another corner won via a deflected Parker shot.
Silky skills from Bale by the corner flag. Corner taken short to VDV but his cross is cleared.
Excellent defending from Steven Taylor as Adebayor chased a long ball. Then Kaboul fouls Ba.
Krul is out sharply to claim Van der Vaart's dink for Adebayor.
Newcastle looking a little open at the back so far. Two simple balls over the top causing problems.
Parker is penalised for what looked like a perfectly good tackle on Ba.
Tottenham enjoying most of the possession so far.
Good ball in from Assou-Ekotto and Ryan Taylor hoofs clear after Van der Vaart took it into the area.
Obertan gets into the area and is in front of Walker but somehow ends up losing the ball.
Great tackle on Tiote from Livermore.
Here come the teams to a sunny St James' Park....
Spurs drop Jermain Defoe and bring in Jake Livermore. Adebayor is fit and starts.
Newcastle are unchanged after their win at Wolves meaning Ben Arfa, Santon and Ameobi are on the bench.
Afternoon all and welcome to live coverage of Newcastle's match with Spurs. It's fourth against sixth at St James' Park.
