Stamford Bridge, England
Referee: A Marriner
It just wasn't his day.
FULL TIME A very professional job from Liverpool, who closed Chelsea down efficiently, including Torres, and took their chance when it came. Chelsea's title race is run and Liverpool move into sixth.
The referee gives Liverpool a free kick as Ivanovic jumps into Aurelio. If that was a free kick, then Johnson's barge was a penalty.
Kuyt fouls Kalou on the half-way line and Chelsea can launch this.
Risky from Glen Johnson as he shoulder barges Ivanovic out of the way when a cross came in. Chelsea howl for a penalty but the ref says no.
Four added minutes....
Lucas does well to bring the ball away and spin it forward for Kuyt but Cech is out to win it before playing as risky ball to Essien.
Malouda's deep cross is met by Ivanovic who heads it straight out of play.
Kalou meets a long ball in the box but can't do anything but head high and wide.
Not a sound from the Chelsea fans.
Poor from Lampard who has a pop from an angle 30 yards out. It swerves well wide. Sums up Chelsea's day.
Poulsen comes on for Meireles as Liverpool shore it up.
Now Luiz turns in a hopeful ball that no blue shirt can get near.
Another ball in the box from Chelsea. Drogba wins it but the ball goes behind for a Liverpool goal kick.
Then Liverpool break and Aurelio turns inside Terry before forcing Cech into a smart save. It was a powerful hit but it was right at the 'keeper.
The ball strikes Lucas on the arm as a Chelsea's cross is cleared but no penalty.
This is surely the end of Chelsea's title hopes if they lose here. Even a draw probably isn't good enough.
Luiz and Kuyt tangle. Chelsea win the free kick.
The free kick is cleared well as Luiz lurked at the back post. More pressure from Chelsea now.
Handball from Meireles and Chelsea have a free kick on the right channel.
Changes for Liverpool too as Maxi comes off and Fabio Aurelio comes on.
Then Lucas is booked for hauling down Kalou as Chelsea looked to break.
Another break for Liverpool and Kuyt finds Meireles but Luiz's first involvement is to block his shot.
Bosingwa comes off and David Luiz is on at centre half. Ivanovic goes to right back.
Anelka finds Malouda who forces a block from Reina but it was a tight angle and he'd have been better off squaring it.
"Torres, what's the score?" sing Liverpool's fans.
Malouda comes on for Mikel as Chelsea are forced to chase the game.
That was a tidy finish from the Portuguese. It was high and he hit it with his left foot. A huge boost for Liverpool and disaster for Chelsea.
GOAL Meireles scores! Gerrard floats a ball into the area, Cech half comes, hesitates and as it rolls across goal Meireles tucks it home neatly.
Essien seems to have injured himself shooting on goal. He's holding his hip but he looks like he'll be ok to continue.
Chelsea revert to their familiar 4-3-3 with Kalou and Anelka supporting Drogba as Essien flashes a shot just over.
Torres comes off to cheers from Liverpool's fans and Kalou is on.
Room for Anelka 25 yards out but his daisy cutter is a yard wide.
The game is stodgy, very stodgy.
Torres goes wide but is tackled and concedes the throw in. Liverpool have shut him down very effectively today.
Johnson collects a cross he could have volleyed first time, then as he gives it away, prevents Bosingwa launching a counter.
Torres has been non-existent this half. Hard to see how he is worth £50m when he plays like this.
Meireles' free kick is over hit and awful. Cech catches. Drogba went down but is up again.
Johnson wins a free kick wide left after a clip from Anelka.
Another Chelsea move falters at the feet of Torres but as it is reworked Cole fires wide from 30 yards.
When will Kenny start to think about bringing Suarez on I wonder?
Ivanovic climbs but can't get on top of it.
Now Anelka has a pop after Essien won the ball from Maxi. It got a nick and is a corner.
Chelsea want a penalty as Kelly challenged Cole but Drogba plays on and wins a corner. From it, Anelka bundles the ball wide.
Dirk Kuyt nearly gets on the end of a Maxi cross before he lays it off to Johnson who fires a shot wide.
Neat exchange between Essien and Drogba but the former's ball is a tad too strong.
The camera pans to Steve Clarke, assistant to Kenny Dalglish. Mixed feeling for him today too I'll wager, gien his long association with Chelsea.
Reina pumps the ball long for Kelly to challenge Ashley Cole in the air. No clear winner as it goes out for a throw.
Another terrible pass, this time from Gerrard.
An awful pass from Lucas prompts a colleague to shout: "He's not worth £40,000 a year let alone £40,000 a week."
There has also been a Premier League sacking today, as West Brom inexplicably axed manager Roberto Di Matteo. Quite why no-one is sure, least of all the man himself.
Torres: A blue amongst the red.
One game has already been completed today where West Ham lost at home to Birmingham. Here is our match report.
HALF TIME A right tangle between Cech and Ivanovic as they both try to clear Kelly's cross. Then they have a right old shout in each other's face. Mikel intervenes before it gets nasty. And that is half time.
Chelsea's free kick is awful as Drogba tries to tee up Lampard but he loses it, then Liverpool's break falters with a poor Maxi cross. Terrible football.
Lucas clips Mikel and Chelsea have a free kick on the left flank, 30 yards from goal.
Decent ball into the box from Johnson and Terry clears then Essien tidies up wonderfully.
A waste from as Essien hits the first man with blue shirts in the box.
The quality has deteriorated massively in the last five minutes. Poor control, poor passing. Its awful.
Liverpool are trying to be far too cute in possession in their won third. Essien nearly steals it again.
Play breaks down with Torres again.
Kuyt backs into Terry after Carragher tackled Drogba.
Neat football from Liverpool ends with a Gerrard cross but Cech comes out to meet it.
Ivanovic meets the corner again but was off balance and can't direct it towards goal.
Bosingwa gets away from Johnson on the right but Agger blocks his cross. Corner.
Scrap that, it wasn't five yards, it was three yards. Clearly onside too. What a chance.
What a miss! Gerrard fires a bobbly shot across goal and Maxi has hit the bar from five yards with the goal gaping!
Now Kuyt finds Meireles 25 yards out but his shot is a dribble right at Cech.
Liverpool get themselves caught in possession again and Drogba finds Torres but Carragher makes a superb saving block as Reina pounced too.
Gerrard's corner is a good one but Chelsea clear as the ball drops.
Carragher spreads the ball wide for Gerrard and he wins a corner off Bosingwa.
Lampard's delivery is a good one and Ivanovic flicks a header narrowly wide of the post.
Drogba's free kick is nodded behind by Lucas.
Agger is outfoxed by Torres and sticks a forearm into the striker's face. Free kick and Torres gets up quick smart.
Torres does well to win the ball and Essien finds Lampard but his little touch to Anelka finds the Frenchman offside.
This game badly needs a goal.
He's back on as Krygiakos warms up.
Looks like Skrtel has pulled something in clearing Cole's cross.
A quality ball from Lampard to Cole who crosses but neither Drogba or Torres are anywhere near it. They should have been.
Torres is crowded out in the area then Kuyt wins a free kick off Ivanovic.
The corner is worked out to Johnson and his ball to Maxi is a decent idea but just too far in front of the winger.
Space down the right for Kuyt as he bends his run well but his cross is poor as Meireles charged up in support.
Kelly and Cole battle for the ball as it rolls toward the byline but Chelsea win the free kick.
Liverpool get out of jail as Reina knocks it short from a goal kick to Agger and Anelka very nearly pinches the ball off him. That was very nearly suicide.
Agger out-muscles Torres on the right. You can just tell they are just waiting for the right time to batter him.
Not much of a sniff for Torres after his early chance.
Kuyt is offside. Both sides cancelling each other out so far.
Torres is flagged offside as he latched onto Essien's pass. This is pretty gritty stuff so far.
Torres and Drogba being closely guarded by Liverpool's back three.
Torres gives the ball away to a big cheer from the away supporters but then Maxi's ball for Kuyt is poor. No pace up front for the visitors at all.
Chelsea on top in terms of possession but no real sight of goal for either side.
Space in the hole for Anelka but a poor pass for Drogba as he approaches the box. It all got very tight in the middle.
Torres' every touch is mercilessly booed by Liverpool's fans, of course.
Kelly bursts down the right and Meireles is in space at the back post but the eventual cross is poor and Mikel brings the ball away.
Liverpool are playing with three centre backs and Johnson and Kelly as wing backs. Meireles is playing off Kuyt up top.
Tactics wise, Anelka is playing at the top point of a diamond formation with Lampard and Essien in the middle and Mikel holding.
Hopefully now Maxi realises Torres doesn't play for his team anymore.
An early chance for Torres as Maxi Rodriguez passes right to him! He gets to the edge of the box but shoots high and wide.
Mikel launches into Gerrard and is booked inside 30 seconds. A nasty tackle.
Some handshakes and kisses from Torres to Lucas and Meireles in the tunnel and here comes the teams...
Some amusing bets on offer: Torres is 16/1 to kiss the badge if he scores and Jamie Carragher is 6/1 to be booked first after fouling Torres.
How odd will it be for him to file out of the dressing room and line-up next to his former colleagues? Wonder if any in red will aim a little dig in the ribs at him?
This should be very tasty indeed for Torres, there are plenty of Liverpool banners slagging him off outside the ground but he got a rousing reception from the home fans when he trotted out for his warm up.
We think Liverpool will play with five in defence with Glen Johnson and Martin Kelly as wing backs. Jamie Carragher is fit and returns but Luis Suarez is on the bench.
So, Torres starts. Of course he does. Kalou drops to the bench and that is quite some front three. Looks like there won't be much width to Chelsea's formation, but the same can't be said about Liverpool.
Liverpool: Reina, Skrtel, Carragher, Agger, Kelly, Lucas, Meireles, Johnson, Gerrard, Maxi, Kuyt. Subs: Gulacsi, Aurelio, Suarez, Jovanovic, Kyrgiakos, Ngog, Poulsen.
Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Anelka, Torres, Drogba. Subs: Turnbull, David Luiz, Malouda, Ferreira, Kalou, McEachran, Sala.
