Thank you for following tonight's match on ESPN Soccernet. We will be back with Europa League action tomorrow at the same time. Join us then. Bye!
But it must be said Inter squandered several golden chances and could come to regret those misses.
It was a good defensive performance from CSKA, who will be missing key player Krasic for the second leg.
But the final whistle has gone. Inter will take just the one goal lead to Russia next week when they should have 3 or 4 goals to their names.
The crowd thought that was the final whistle but it was just a very very late sub by Mourinho.
Inter sub: Mariga on for Pandev
CSKA look ragged and will be delighted to take this scoreline back to Moscow.
We will have 3 additional minutes at the San Siro.
This time Pandev shoots from distance when he could have played it to Eto'o or Milito. Shot was saved.
Sneijder threads another ball to Pandev but he can't control it.
CSKA could have snatched the most undeserved equaliser in the history of football. Necid was put through by a lofted throughball but couldn't control it.
Milito forces a corner for Inter on the right, the ball breaks to Cambiasso whose strike is just over. This is all Inter.
CSKA should be dead and buried by now.
Great chance for Sneijder, he pulled his shot wide of the left foot when he should have hit the back of the net. Another big miss for Inter.
Eto'o finds himself in the box but his shot is blocked at the last second.
Maicon looks for Eto'o but the bounce on the cross just deceived Eto'o.
And Materazzi picked up a head injury in that scramble. He is receiving treatment.
A scramble for the ball is eventually hacked clear by Inter.
CSKA have actually managed to get out of their half and Berezutski forces a corner.
Pandev again causing problems but his cross from the left is tame.
Inter force another corner.
Eto'o looks for Milito on the edge of the box but his pass is intercepted. Inter deserve more than the one-goal lead to take to the plastic pitch in Russia.
Three subs in quick succession for CSKA. And they've used all their subs.
CSKA sub: Rahimic on for Aldonin
That's an attacking substitution by CSKA, but they need defenders more urgently than attackers. Pure Inter pressure for the past 15 or so minutes.
CSKA sub: Gonzalez on for Mamaev
Cambiasso's corner goes straight out for a throw.
Berezutski clears that off the line from Pandev. Pandev rounded the keeper but Berezutski slid in to save the away side. Brilliant defending. Inter corner.
This is pure Inter pressure. Pandev almost dribbles his way through the defence but CSKA hack it clear. A second goal is surely coming.
CSKA sub: Dzagoev for Honda.
It's backs to the wall stuff for CSKA.
Materazzi comes close for Inter. His header from Sneijder's corner is just over.
And CSKA are at sea at the moment.
And Inter deserve that. After an abject first half they have brought the game to CSKA in the second half.
It's Milito. And that's been coming for Inter. Sneijder attacked down the left, passed into Milito's feet, who made a yard of space on the edge of the box and fired in from 20 yards.
GOAL! 1-0 INTER
Eto'o raises the roof at the San Siro. He cut inside from the left and hit a low shot to the near post. Saved.
Inter are knocking on the door again. This time Pandev makes the keep work after Sneijder laid the ball off.
Eto'o attacks down the Inter left before playing in Milito, whose misunderstanding with Pandev causes the move to break down. And Eto'o is furious that his teammates spurned that opportunity.
In a game of few chances, that was a big miss.
Golden opportunity for Pandev. Only the goalkeeper to beat and he got the ball stuck under his feet and the shot was tame. Pandev had two players in support there. Complete waste.
Ignashevich puts his goalkeeper under pressure with an unnecessary backpass.
The corner is headed out by Ignashevich.
Maicon almost finds Milito with the cross from the right, headed out for a corner by Berezutski.
CSKA sweep up another Inter attack. The Russians' work rate has been first rate.
Mamaev hits another fizzer from distance. Tipped over by Cesar. That shot had some power behind it.
The corner is punched clear by Cesar.
Krasic finds Berezutski on the rigth whose low cross is cut out, but only at the expense of a corner to CSKA.
Maicon again looks for Milito with the cross from the right but again it's too high for him. Inter have stepped up the pace in the second half.
A corner for Inter is headed clear, Maicon strikes the rebound from outside the box and the ball falls to Eto'o, but he caught well offside.
Inter on the attack. Maicon puts in a tempting cross for Pandev but it is crucially flicked clear by Berezutski.
Mamaev fires just over from dstance for CSKA. Not a bad effort.
Sneijder has fouled Semberas. And Semberas gingerly gets back to his feet. Quite late by Sneijder, that one.
CSKA, in their white shirts, are now shooting from left to right.
And CSKA kick off the second half.
And that's the end of a forgettable first half. Frustration for Inter, who will surely come out all guns blazing to break the deadlock.
Chance for Eto'o. Cambiasso's free kick is hit to Eto'o at the far post but Eto'o can't keep his header down.
We will have 2 minutes of injury time at the end of the first half.
Sneijder is fouled yet again. And this time asks Howard Webb for some support.
But Sneijder breaks through after a quick one-two with Milito, but he was just off balance as he struck it with his left foot. That was a difficult one for Sneijder to control but it goes down as a half chance.
Inter have really lacked the craft to unlock the CSKA defence.
Inter are dominating again, but the final ball has been poor all half.
Zanetti hits a right footed cross from the left, straight into the hands of Akinfeev.
Stankovic smacks the free kick which hits the wall. Pandev hits the rebound straight into the wall. Not very inventive, you could say.
And now Aldonin will miss the return leg. These are stacking up for CSKA. Opportunity from the free kick for Inter.
Yellow card: Aldonin (CSKA)
Sneijder is fouled on the edge of the box by Aldonin.
Inter appeal for handball in the box but Cambiasso is offside anyway. Eto's shot struck Cambiasso meaning he was offside.
Going back to Krasic's yellow card, that means he will now miss the return leg in Moscow. As CSKA's key man, he will be a big miss.
Intricate attacking by Inter, resulting in Maicon being a shade offside from Milito's pass. CSKA were at full stretch again as Inter turn up the heat.
Pandev finds himself one-on-one but the referee's assistant has his flag up.
Yellow card: Krasic (CSKA)
Krasic fouls Cambiasso. That was late.
And now Eto'o does the same. Both sides shooting from distance as the contest slips into a stalemate.
Aldonin fires over. That was a horrific shot.
CSKA are slowly imposing themselves on the tie. Not really penetrating the Inter defence, but keeping the ball with some comfort.
Klasic is forced to play the ball all the way back to his own half after finding himself isolated up front. The move entually comes to nothing for CSKA.
CSKA enjoy a sustained period of possession for the first time in the game.
CSKA almost commit suicide by giving the ball straight to Maicon who gallops forward but eventually loses it. Inter's threat is increasing.
Honda is penalised for a foul in the Inter half. Honda has come off worse after clashing with Materazzi.
Fantastic shot by Pandev from a long way out. Powerful shot just didn't have enough dip on it. Great effort though.
Maicon wins a free kick after being fouled by Mamaev. It certainly was not a free kick but Sneijder will take this one from the right.
The corner is cleared, but Inter are keeping up the pressure.
Sneijder has forced a corner. His free kick was clipped into the box and headed out by Aldonin.
But Inter force another free kick in a dangerous area after Pandev is brought down by Ignashevich.
So far, it's been pretty even. CSKA are holding their own.
Lovely move by Inter, Cambiasso almost threaded it through to Eto'o who would have been through, but good defending again.
Inter keep trying the long ball to Milito. And CSKA keep clearing it.
Krasic drives forward again but his pass to the right is too hard. CSKA do look comfortable when they get the ball.
Maicon hits a long ball in search of Milito. Inter are enjoying possession, but CSKA look dangerous on the break with Krasic.
And Honda struck the resulting free kick very well indeed. A low powerful drive by the Japanese international but straight at Cesar.
Clear foul by Materazzi on Krasic, 25 yards from goal.
Yellow card: Materazzi (Inter)
Sneijder whipped it in and it was goalbound but Akinfeev punched clear. The ball fell to Stankovic who struck it from 25 yards. High and wide.
And Sneijder has been fouled on the left, just outside the box. Dangerous area, clear foul.
And the first shot of the night, by Eto'o. Pandev played it out to the left and Eto'o attacked and shot to the near post.
And Stankovic has fouled Krasic on the halfway line. Quite a few foulds for Howard Webb to deal with so far.
But equally dangerous is Maicon who seems to be permanently in CSKA's half.
It was Krasic who forced that corner and he's looking dangerous down Inter's left side.
And CSKA force a corner.
CSKA go forward again, but this time Mamaev's run is blocked.
Infact, it is Sneijder who shoots, but his shot is wide of the left post.
CSKA are conceding a lot of free kicks already. Cambiasso to take the free kick 30 yards out.
Milito has been taken down cynically by Schennikov. Schennikov lucky not to see yellow there.
Cambiasso is fouled from behind by Honda in the CSKA half.
Krasic makes a great run down the right for CSKA, but his cross from the byline is too strong
Maicon is already motoring down the right for Inter, but his cross is cut out
Inter are kicking from left to right.
And Howard Webb gets us underway...
The players are lined up listening to the Champions theme tune. We're moments from kick off at the San Siro.

However, Chile winger Mark Gonzalez is only on the bench after suffering muscle spasms.

The Brazilian pair are banned so coach Jose Mourinho has made some changes to the side that knocked out Chelsea, but teenage striker Mario Balotelli remains left in the cold.
Inter Milan are without Lucio and Thiago Motta for the quarter-final first leg clash.
