Ronaldo are Real looked certainties in the first half, but battling Lyon changed their formation and came back in the second. Great performance for the French and Real may be looking for a new coach soon...
THAT'S IT! Real have spent £200m this summer to improve their squad, but they've been knocked out by Lyon.
Raul and Cris are clashing and we don't need to see this right now. Raul thinks he's been kicked out at.. and there's a real tussle.
Clock ticks down.. and Madrid fans are piling out. They know it's over.
Delgardo now.. completely through, but Garay is tracking all the way back and just gets his toe on the ball as the Lyon man shoots. High and wide.
They are still pushing forward, but the crowd are quiet.
Ronaldo now finds some space on the right and Lloris holds the ball well. The desire has gone from Madrid completely.
Lyon through! There's no-one at home for Madrid. The ball is hit across the box to Lisandro, who blasts it wide. There was no-one near him!
Cris is there again as Guti throws the ball in, heading clear. An embarrassing dive from Garay there.
Madrid can't get hold of it and there's already some fans who are heading for the exits.
Van der Vaart now gets a booking. Pure frustration.
Madrid look frustrated now. Lyon are teasing them and just looking to keep the ball.
Lyon still have a few players up top looking to catch Madrid on the break. Lisandro turns Garay well, but he's looking to keep hold of it rather than head to goal.
Toulalan comes across Lloris to take control of the situation when Van der Vaart crosses. That was a close one; not much room for error.
Mo Diarra comes on now for Real, which is an odd one. Pjanic off for Lyon and striker Ederson on.
Cris misses the header from a corner and the ball skims past three waiting Real players on the back post. Phew, that was a lucky one.
Real playing the ball around a lot just outside the box, but they can't seem to find the breakthrough.
The boos come loud and fast from the home fans as the ball is played all the way back to Casillas. More is needed.
Lloris comes well to punch clear. Lyon are packing the defence now.
Ramos with a great bit of skill and Delgado brings him down. Every Lyon player is back in the box.
Lisandro on his own now.. running against Garay and tries a backheel to no-one at all.
Good ball in from Van der Vaart and there are a lot of Real players in the box. Comes to nothing though.
The Champions League's top scorer ever.. Raul. And how Madrid need him now.
Kaka attempting to throw it forward and wins a corner. Raul is coming on now. Kaka off.
A massive goal! Real need two goals in 15 minutes now! You have to say, that goal was coming!
Oh that's a big one! What a build up play. Pjanic puts it in! Ball is slid in to Lisandro on the penalty spot, who lays it off.. and Pjanic buries it past Casillas.
Madrid's players breathing heavy at the moment. But they continue to press forward.
Ronaldo with a great piece of skill, who finds Van der Vaart and Higuain's overhead kick is very disappointing indeed.
Kaka motoring in the middle. It eventually falls to Van der Vaart, who hammers a shot over the bar. Not a bad effort.
The free-kick is smashed in from a long way out. Really arrowed in towards Cris from Pjanic, but the defender missed it completely. Any contact there and that would have been a goal.
Cissoko and Delgardo attempting to get things going down the left, now Albiol is called up for a foul on Govou.
Lyon's defending has been sharper. Real, however, look disjointed and poor. Higuain has hardly touched it.
Kaka now brought down. It's got a bit niggly now. Things are getting a little tight as the seconds tick on.
Delgado takes a yellow card as he went into Albiol. Poor tackle.
Long shot, saved easily enough by Casillas.
Ronaldo hammers it into the wall though. He's not been on form from the dead ball situations tonight.
Gonalons brings down Ronaldo on the charge. Great run, and he was just caught outside the box. Good chance coming up...
Lots of whistles coming now, the Real fans are upset. And I don't blame them, where did the side that were playing the first half go?
Awful defending there from Lyon as Toulalan attempts to clear. Kaka couldn't make it count though.
Not much to choose between them at the moment. Real trying to change things with van der Vaart coming on for Granero.
Real are the ones struggling to keep a hold of the ball now. Cris crashes in to keep possession and the French side are slotting some good passes around.
Higuain was one on one, but Cris did really well to snuff out the danger. He should have kept his head up though, as he would have seen Ronaldo in space.
Another one in Manchester. 3-0 now.
Granero gives the ball away poorly and Lisandro is away down the right. His lack of pace is shown up though as Albiol comes across to clear the danger.
Ramos now down the right, cuts inside and slots it across to Granero who shoots straight away. That was a good chance as well!
Real break though. Ronaldo down the left and he cuts it inside to Kaka. 25 yards out, and he has a bit of time, but drags his powerful shot wide.
Lisandro strikes it! That's better. The ball flies all over the place and Casillas has to parry it away.
Looks to me like they have a few more bodies up front now.
Lyon have shown more in these ten mins that they did in the whole of the first half.
Great strength from Kaka, but his pocket is picked just as he was about to unleash the shot.
Another decent chance as Kallstrom runs down the left. Pulls the ball back to the penalty spot and Govou smashes it over the bar.
Lass tracking back on Delgado, but he finds Pjanic who wastes it completely. That was a decent position!
Lyon are pressing Madrid well and Ronaldo is being double teamed because of the threat he possesses.
Lass gets across to stop Cissoko. He's had a good game so far, breaking up the Lyon attacks and always finding his own team-mates.
That was a decent chance. A goal for Lyon and Madrid would be up against it.
Casillas punches a corner clear again but it's hit back in and Gonalons gets his head on it. He was heading backwards and just knocks it over the bar.
Terrible touch from Arbeloa. Looks like the player we sometimes saw at Liverpool.
Game over in Manchester. Rooney bags another one.
Guti getting tetchy after a tackle on Ronaldo. There's a few mini battles going on.
Gonalons and Kallstrom on, for Makoun and Boumsong. Interesting.. there must be an injury or two.
Second half. Heading for extra-time as we stand...
Ronaldo put Madrid one up early on, and it's been all Madrid since. Lyon had one decent chance, but if they don't change something then the pressure will tell eventually. Join us in 15...
Casillas punches clear and Madrid break. That's it though, half-time whistle is blown.
Lisandro does nicely against Ramos on the wing and is fouled, so they'll have one last chance before the break.
Two minutes of added time, as Guti just fails to find Higuain with a through ball.
Govou does very well against Arbeloa, but his final ball is awful. He had men to aim at, but miserably failed to find any of them at all.
Fantastic pace from Kaka, his run down the left almost gets him free, but Revelliere tracks him all the way and actually forces a goalkick with some good defending.
Not that one though. Govou at the near post gets rid of it easily.
Ronaldo controls it and forces a corner. They've been dangerous from these so far.
Ramos charges down the right again, but Kaka's backheel doesn't find him.
Higuain could have had a hat-trick tonight already. Lyon have to stop giving him chances, or they will regret it.
Good effort from Higuain. A cross comes in from Granero this time and the glancing header goes just wide of the post. There were a few in there, but that was a good chance.
Granero gets a booking for a really poor tackle on Delgado. Knee high.. and late.
Penalty shout, as Higuain loses his footing in the box under a Boumsong tackle. Nothing there.
Madrid need to step it up in the final third, as they really are controlling the game.
Super interplay again from Real, and Ramos is found free again on the right. Delgado is doing really well to get back and block his cross once more.
That's the closest that Lyon have come to scoring. Actually it's probably the first time they have even been in the Madrid box.
Makoun great chance! The ball flies across the box from Govou and Makoun is there. It just falls behind him though and he misses his kick. Really good chance.
A few whistles coming from the home support. Not sure why, as it's only a matter of time...
Ronaldo pushes forward once more. A great turn and his through ball almost finds Higuain, but Cris closes his legs just in time.
Guti flies in, but the ball rebounds to Ronaldo who is offside.
Brilliant feet from Ronaldo, who knocks it across the pictch to find Ramos. The cross is closed down by Delgado, who is playing very deep.
Lisandro (yes he's still playing) gets knocked off the high ball by Garay, who has him in his pocket so far.
Ramos is the one who is hurt most by that as he was coming onto it.
Ouch. Diarra and Ramos clash heads and that looks like it hurt.
Great save! Lloris saves the day again! Kaka finds space and charges through a gap, the ball falls kindly to Higuain who hits it low and Lloris palms it out. Ronaldo can't get on the rebound and is angry Higuain didn't see him in space.
Ronaldo blasts a free-kick well over the bar. He looks at the turf, but that wasn't the turf Cris..
Higuain had an open goal there. It was outside the box and running away from goal, but he should have done better.
Cris now brings down Kaka from behind, and gets booked!
Real hit the post! Oh dear. That could have been it. Great through ball and Higuain bursts through. Lloris comes flying out, Higuain takes it past him and then rolls the ball towards goal. Post, and away.
Higuain just caught offside from Ramos's ball. Just half a yard there, or that was dangerous.
Lyon finally get their feet on the ball, but as quickly as they do, they lose it and Real break again.
The danger passes, as Real can't get anyone on the end of these crosses. Madrid keep the pressure on.. it's relentless.
No, he touches it wide to Granero. And the cross is blocked.
Boumsong gets a vital touch on a Granero cross, but there's a foul now and Ronaldo is going to hit it.
That sums it up for Lyon. Lisandro breaks, but there's no support and he has to hit it backwards. The cross comes in, and there's no-one there...
Ramos finds Ronaldo with a sprayed ball. He slips it inside, but Higuain loses it.
Ball flies out off a corner and Toulalan is the man who attempts to curl it. One goal in five years, suggests he won't hit the net, and it slides wide.
Guti gives the ball away and the ball finds Lisandro. He's run off it by Garay through. Ramos now has to tackle back on Cissoko.
Lassana Diarra is just pulling the strings, sitting deep and giving the ball to those who can attack.
Another miscontrol from Ronaldo? What is happening to him..
Ramos finds a lot of space down the right. Real are being patient, but Lyon are closing down as best they can.
It doesn't look long before Madrid score again, as Lyon really haven't had much of a kick so far.
Goal in the other game tonight.. guess who? Rooney.
Madrid keeping the ball well. The ball is fired in to Ronaldo, who lays it off (or is it a miscontrol?) but it lands in the path of Higuain who smashes his shot wide.
Header from Ronaldo comes in after a corner. He rose high just off the penalty spot, but it flies over.
Lyon trying to push forward and attack, but they aren't making many inroads.
Kaka does really well down the left. Great combo with Ronaldo and the Brazilian nutmegs Reveillere. His low shot is held, just, by Lloris.
Ronaldo tries to slot in Kaka, but he completely ignored Guti who was free on the left.
Albiol and Garay exchange some interesting passes at the back for Madrid. There's confidence for you.
Toulalan brings Ronaldo down in the middle. Studs were up a bit, and he'll need to be careful now.
Went right through the legs of Lloris. Poor keeping there, but a great low finish from the £80m man.
Guti loops the ball into the path of Ronaldo, who hits it low with his left foot first time. Great goal.
Govou does really well down the right and swings it across to Lisandro. Just too far...
Lyon will break with men running forward though. As five go streaking through the middle, the final ball is missing.
Kaka turns well, but Pjanic brings him down.
Teams are just attempting to get control of the ball. Madrid have most of it, but Lyon are defending in numbers...
Madrid controlling the ball well in the opening exchanges. Lyon can't get a kick.
Madrid have hit at least 3 goals in each of their last 6 games. Could be a high scoring affair.
Great ball from Higuain to open up the defence. Ominous signs already...
Kaka already has a shot, where was the left-back? Lloris comes flying out as the Brazilian run through... good save.
Right, here we go. Guti captain of Real tonight, and Lyon will kick off.
Teams are out on the pitch. Interesting stat.. Lyon have never lost in their 5 games played against Real.
Lyon have that goal advantage and, if they score, Madrid will need to net three if they are to progress.
Madrid are under a bit of pressure here. A lot of money has been spent on their squad. The final is at the Bernabeu this year and they really cannot afford a slip up.
Don't forget to tune in to ESPN Classic tonight at 10:30pm to see the premiere of The Umpire Strikes Back by the way. More on that later.
You never quite know what to expect from this Madrid side. They have been on a great run in La Liga, but always look a little vulnerable at the back. I think it could be a cracker.
Madrid have not made it to the quarter-finals since 2004, but Lyon haven't got a great record past this stage either. They have a lot to prove at this level.
Raul is on the bench for Real and, given that it's a UCL tie, you'd expect him to score at some point. Gomis is the man for Lyon from the subs if the French side need to change the game.
Players to watch out for... other than the usual suspects Sergio Ramos has been in fine form down the right for Real. Pjanic is a real spark for Lyon and Delgado is always a threat.
Lyon have Pjanic, Delgado and Lisandro up top, with Govou around as well.
Bit of team news.. Guti and Granero start in the middle for Real. That attack of Ronaldo, Kaka, Higuain looks impressive.
Hello, and welcome to Real Madrid's game against Lyon. Madrid are 1-0 down from the first leg, so nothing but a win will do.
