Right folks, that's all for today but join us again on Saturday for coverage of Cameroon v Denmark, Netherlands v Japan, Ghana v Australia. Thanks for tuning in.

  • 93'

Gerrard was just asked what was missing from the game. "Goals" was his answer. Insightful.

  • 93'

Comment from Joy Gupta: Algeria fully deserve their point and they will be celebrating back home long into the night. They worked hard and kept pressing till the end. What they needed was a finisher but strangely they didn't bring either any of their forwards...

  • 93'

You can follow the highs and lows of the World Cup on our Facebook page

  • 93'

You can read the report from this game here.

  • 93'

And they got it - a great performance really from Algeria - things slowed down for them in the second half but they were the better side in the first.

  • 93'

Comment from Joy Gupta at Green Point Stadium: Flares going off in the stands now. It's coming from the Algerian part - I think they sense a point they didn't expect.

  • 93'

Soccernet Editor John Brewin: That was the worst match of the tournament and England can take a huge part of the discredit for it. As bad as 1-1 with Ireland in 1990, Denmark in 1992. Plain awful.

  • 93'

By no means a classic this one and I'm sure Fabio Capello will be doing a lot of soul searching before the Slovenia game.

  • 93'

    FULL-TIME. England 0-0 Algeria

  • 93'

    It's all over...

  • 93'

    Late corner for England.

  • 92'

    Sails over the crossbar.

  • 92'

The box is packed with green shirts, Belhadj to take.

  • 92'

Rooney fouls Kadir - one last chance for Algeria.

  • 92'

    Johnson brings down Belhadj.

  • 91'

Crouch with an excellent tiptoeing run down the right but his ball in field is terrible.

  • 91'

Defoe and Gerrard combine well, Lampard is slipped in and the ball breaks out for Defoe who launches it high and over. Don't think the Jabulani can be blamed for that.

  • 90'

Three minutes of added time to play.

  • 89'

James collects. If he didn't catch it, there were three players in green ready to pounce. Crucial from the goalkeeper.

  • 89'

Belhadj with a fantastic ball, very dangerous...

  • 88'

Terry penalised and Algeria have a free-kick about 40 yards out.

  • 88'

Frank Lampard shows his frustration after a missed chance

  • 88'

    Mesbah on for Yebda

  • 87'

Lampard shoots from 30 yards. It's all looking very desperate as boos ring out, seemingly from both sets of fans. Capello looks irate.

  • 86'

Rooney with so much space oin front of him looks for the Hollywood pass to Wright-Phillips and fails miserably.

  • 85'

Comment from Joy Gupta at Green Point Stadium: Flares going off in the stands now. It's coming from the Algerian part - I think they sense a point they didn't expect.

  • 85'

England corner delivered towards Defoe. Goal kick as he heads it over.

  • 84'

Lacen cautioned for bringing down Wright-Phillips.

  • 84'

Rooney dropping back to left midfield by the looks of it. Interesting tactical switch.

  • 83'

    Crouch on for Barry

  • 83'

Lampard tries to engineer some space on the edge of the box but after giving it to Johnson he watches as the right-back fails to deliver.

  • 82'

    Johnson's cross is too long.

  • 82'

Wright-Phillips wins the free-kick - he's looked lively since coming on.

  • 81'

Matmour tackled fairly by Johnson but when the ball comes to Rooney he again can't create anything.

  • 80'

Ziani has been impressive but looked to be suffering from a bit of cramp.

  • 79'

    Guedioura on for Ziani

  • 79'

Wright-Phillips tries to slip it through to Gerrard but his pass is too strong.

  • 79'

Terry tries to bring England forward from the back.

  • 77'

England corner, won again by Defoe. But no further developments to report after that.

  • 77'

Great acceleration from Belhadj - he's been effective throughout. But the one-two with Ziani doesn't quite work.

  • 76'

Terry nods it to Barry on the edge who hammers his shot into Halliche's arm. Completely accidental though.

  • 76'

    Lampard to take.

  • 75'

Another good burst of pace from Defoe and he's forced another corner.

  • 75'

    Terrible delivery by Gerrard.

  • 74'

Great build up between Gerrard and Lampard. Defoe bursts through and wins a corner. Good first contribution.

  • 74'

Interesting to see how that much-maligned partnership between Rooney and Defoe will worlk out.

  • 73'

    Defoe on for Heskey

  • 73'

    Abdoun on for Boulebouz

  • 72'

Rooney let's fly from all of 30 yards. Wide.

  • 72'

    Defoe warming up.

  • 71'

Ziani on the attack for Algeria, he sends Matmour clear down the left but he's dispossessed and Capello's side have it back.

  • 70'

The subsequent corner was met by Gerrard who headed into the goalkeeper's arms.

  • 69'

Heskey into the box tried to cross it but his effort was deflected away by Belhadj with a last-ditch tackle. It dipped just over the bar.

  • 69'

    Great chance for England

  • 69'

Matmour takes on Carragher down the left but the Liverpool defender makes a good tackle.

  • 69'

ESPN Stats & Info: Algeria have never kept a clean sheet in seven World Cup matches.

  • 68'

Rooney with another loose pass, this time too short for Gerrard.

  • 68'

ESPN Stats & Info: Aaron Lennon had just 30 touches before coming off, the least amount for any player on England and the third least for either team.

  • 67'

Heskey doing some desperate defeding in hs own area.

  • 66'

James and Carragher looked unsure who was to come for the ball. In the end Carragher hoofed it out.

  • 66'

It comes to Lampard who tries but - surprise surprise - fails to execute the pass.

  • 66'

Great positive running from Wright-Phillips. He's won a free-kcik down the right wing. Barry to swing it in.

  • 65'

Another dire touch from Rooney, he has had a real nightmare.

  • 65'

Soccernet Editor John Brewin: As a sole Englishman in a press room of Americans and Slovenians I am utterly embarrased by this performance.

  • 64'

James does really well to get it away. Could have been disaster with Matmour bearing down on him.

  • 64'

Terrible back pass there by Terry, criminal in fact.

  • 63'

Gerrard's ball is flapped at by M'Bolhi but it's hammered upfield.

  • 62'

    Wright-Phillips on for Lennon

  • 62'

Lennon down the right and he floats a great ball in towards rooney - flicked away by Halliche for a corner.

  • 61'

Lampard wins it back and Rooney can break. He switches it to Johnson.

  • 61'

Cole charges down Kadir and Algeria have a throw-in deep in England territory.

  • 60'

    Gerrard delivers but M'Bolhi collects.

  • 60'

England corner as Rooney continues to look dismayed. He has shown some really poor touches in the last ten minutes.

  • 59'

    Wayne Rooney looks frustrated

  • 59'

Dragged wide of the left post, his low effort skewed out for a goal-kick.

  • 58'

Free-kick 20 yards out on the left of the area. Yahia to take it for Algeria...

Cole heads Belhadj's cross out for an Algeria corner.

  • 56'

But now Algeria back on the attach with Belhadj. It's end to end stuff.

  • 56'

Boulabouz and Matmour make some space but it's a break for England.

  • 55'

The ball comes out to Lennon who strikes one with his left from the edge of the box. Tame effort to say the least.

  • 54'

Gerrard fed in by Lampard on the right of the area and he's in acres. He tries to drop it back in the box but it's poor and cleared for a corner.

  • 53'

Barry looking for a killer pass but he's given it away and is fortunate that Algeria don't manufacture a break.

  • 53'

Ziani fouls Johnson - he's unlucky there though as it was actually Johnson who kicked his foot.

  • 52'

Not sure about that one Robin!

  • 52'

Robin at Soccernet HQ says:When England played Egypt, Carrick came on and changed the game - he could do it again.

  • 51'

Heskey sprints down the right - I use the word sprint loosely - before spooning his cross out of play.

  • 50'

Carrick warming up. Can he be the answer to England's prayers?

  • 49'

But Algeria back on the attack immediately with Yebda. His cross goes out of play for a goal-kick though.

  • 49'

Blocked by Johnson - it was never going anywhere near though.

  • 49'

Terry penalised for a foul on Matmour and it's another 35-yard free-kick. Yebda this time...

  • 47'

Great tackle by Johnson on Yebda as he was inside the box.

  • 47'

Straight into Wayne Rooney in the wall.

  • 47'

It's a good 35 yards out and it will be captain Yahia to take it.

  • 46'

Algeria free-kick as Matmour is sandwiched between Terry and Carragher.

  • 46'

England look to attack early on but it's the same old story and the move breaks down before it even reaches the penalty area.

  • 45'

And we're off for the second half...

  • 45'

    Fabio Capello shows his frustration

  • 45'

    Not ideal from your strikers!

  • 45'

ESPN Stats & Info: England haven't been able to get the ball in the box for their forwards. Rooney has just two touches in the box and Heskey has one.

  • 45'

Fingers crossed for some goals in the second half folks! I thought the World Cup had started to get interesting?!

  • 45'

It's like you read my mind Joy!

  • 45'

Comment from Joy Gupta at Green Point Stadium: Algeria looked the brighter... especially Belhadj and Ziani... but they lack a proper target.

  • 45'

The other game in Group C was played earlier today and it was a cracker. Slovenia and USA drew 2-2 and Soccernet Editor John Brewin was there to watch it. Read his thoughts on the game here.

  • 45'

You can follow the highs and lows of the World Cup on our Facebook page

  • 45'

But fair play to Algeria, they look a much better side than the one that was turned over by Slovenia. Ziani and Boulebouz the key men, while Belhadj has been full of running too.

  • 45'

A really tough game to watch from an England perspective, they lack a degree of flair and creativity - Joe Cole anyone?

  • 45'

    HALF-TIME. England 0-0 Algeria

  • 45'

Belhadj trying to make something happen for Algeria, they should definitely be the happier of the two sides at half-time.

  • 45'

It's all petered out a little bit here.

  • 43'

Rooney has a go from 30 yards but again M'Bolhi is up to the challenge. He's looked very competent considering it's only his second appearance for his country.

  • 42'

ESPN Stats & Info: Both teams are having trouble crossing the ball. England have put in ten crosses, but only two have found their target, while only two of Algeria's 13 have connected

  • 41'

Ziani has been a real dangerman for the Desert Foxes in this half, unafraid to run at England's defence.

  • 40'

Heskey works it down the right and his cross is blocked away. Surely he needs to be the one in the box?!

  • 39'

  • 35'

Kadir dribbles down the right and Algeria still maintaining a good level of pressure.

  • 34'

Lennon gets the cross in and it breaks to Lampard who hits a left foot effort. But M'Bolhi again keeps hold of the ball.

  • 32'

    Great chance!

Algeria certainly doing well thus far but England just starting to build some momentum.

  • 31'

Belhadj down the left but his cross is met successfully by James.

  • 26'

Heskey wins it from Haliche and plays it through to Rooney but he is penalised for being a little rough with Yahia.

  • 26'

Lampard and Barry exchange passes and the ball goes wide to Johnson. Lennon (back on the right) tries to prod it into Heskey but it's a poor ball.

  • 25'

Barry crosses in but it's over Heskey's head and out for a free-kick in Algeria's right-back position.

  • 24'

Lennon has moved to the left to try to get some joy and his first contribution is to win a free-kick.

  • 24'

Gareth Barry of England jumps over the tackle by Ryad Boudebouz of Algeria

  • 19'

ESPN Stats & Info: In the first 17 minutes, Emile Heskey has had just four touches and one pass.

Ziani skips away from Lampard with a smart turn. But the move breaks down.

  • 17'

This time it's Belhadj breaking down the left - good pressure here from the Algerians on a nervous looking England defence.

  • 16'

Ziani whips a ball in from the left and Johnson almost put it past James. The goalkeepeer keeps hold of it though.

  • 15'

M'Bolhi collects the ball to settle his nerves.

  • 15'

This time it's Gerrard's turn for an optimistic strike. High and over from 35 yards.

  • 13'

  • 12'

Punch away from James that was less than convincing with Matmour putting pressure on. Johnson got away with his clearance as well.

  • 11'

Gerrard gives the ball away in midfield, he's playing very centrally at the moment.

  • 10'

But his throw-in leaves captain Yahia in trouble and Heskey closes him down quickly.

  • 9'

Lampard and Johnson attempt and exchange but Belhadj does well to force it out.

  •

    We're off..

  •

Comment from Jayaditya Gupta at Green Point stadium: Princes Harry and William are here, just below me. Royalty no less!

  •

We're just about ready here, the anticipation is tangible.

  •

Both teams in need of a positive result after underwhelming openings. England drew 1-1 with USA and Algeria lost 1-0 to Slovenia.

  •

The players are out on the pitch and "God Save the Queen" blares out across the Green Point Stadium. Here comes the Algerian national anthem too.

  •

For Algeria, goalkeeper M'Bolhi is making only his second international appearance, while Rafik Djebbour is replaced by Boudebouz.

  •

In other England team news, Gareth Barry comes in for James Milner. Barry will play in the middle while Steven Gerrard is shifted to left-midfield. Jamie Carragher comes in for the injured Ledley king in the heart of defence.

  •

Comment from Joy Gupta at Green Point Stadium: ''Positively balmy weather - 17 degrees. If England score early they will stroll it. The longer they take to score the more nervy they will become and the tougher Algeria will be to break down.''

  •

Joy Gupta is at the stadium in Cape Town and he will be providing us with some titbits and observations throughout the game.

  •

Both of these sides' goalkeepers made mistakes in their respective openers. And both have been punished. James comes in for Green while M'Bolhi comes in for Chaouchi.
