Stamford Bridge, England
Referee: Kyros Vassaras
Game over. A comfortable win for Chelsea, despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise, and it was largely uneventful. Certainly not the beautiful game we were promised by Big Phil. He won't care he lied to us though, he's practically through to the next stage. Ta ra.
Lamps could have put some gloss on the scoreline after surging into the box. He got round Mexes but Panucci was in before he could pull the trigger.
Last chance saloon for Roma.
Paulo Ferreira on, Anelka off.
Bosingwa scampers down the right but with many better options, chooses to shoot. Poor.
Chelsea just trying to run the clock down now as Roma post three up top.
Time running out for Roma, who have fashioned only one half chance all evening.
Mexes tries a ridiculous effort.
Brighi goes down after a 50/50 aerial challeneg with Mikel but the ref blows. Then Panucci is booked for too much chatty chatty to the referee. He deserved that the skipper, he's been chirping at the official all night.
Atletico equalise against Livepool. Simao.
Lampard goes for goal after Bridge won a free kick. Toni tips over. Corner.
Another change, Riise is off and Max Tonetto is on. The former Liverpool man gets plenty of stick from the home crowd.
Nowt comes from the first free kick and now a change. Taddei is off and Jeremy Menez is on.
Free kick for Roma in dangerous territory. Suddenly their gameplan is ripped up and they need to pour forward and find an equaliser.
Well, they've made heavy weather of it but finally Chelsea deservedly take the lead. Terry twisted his knee on the way down after netting the header but looks alright. Franco Di Santo is on for Kalou by the way.
Terry attacks the near post and glances a header into the far corner.
It's all a bit too tight for Chelsea as Roma squeeze the play. The Blues don't get the break but do win a corner.
Carvalho flies into the area and has to high jump the advertising boards after running out of pitch. He crashes into a seat, but is ok.
Bosingwa hammers one across the face of goal. Panucci clears.
Briefly, the break was on for Roma as Totti and Taddei galloped clear, but they hesitated and eventually Bosingwa snuffs out the danger.
Terry wins the ball off Totti's knee but the ref gives a foul and a yellow card. Never a booking in the Premier League but then this is Europe eh?
Lampard hits it straight into the wall, then Bosingwa can't get the ball back into the mixer.
The ref gives Chelsea another generous free kick after Mikel fell over Vucinic. Lamps is over it again.
Now Anelka is flagged offside after a Mikel through ball.
Belletti pulls the ball back to Mikel, he hits it first time and it clips Anelka and bounces wide.
Barcelona now lead Basle 5-0 in Switzerland. Oh dear.
Chelsea scream pen after Kalou takes a tumble. Nowt doing though, rightly so.
Doni looks to have tweaked something after he tried to guide the ball out for a goal kick under pressure from Anelka.
Panucci is out to see to Deco, who wins a thrown in right by the corner flag.
Bosingwa swings in a free kick, Kaluo gets a free header but Doni saves comfortably. Good chance.
Simone Perotta is on for Aquilani.
Chelsea's early half momentum evaporating.
Roma changes imminent.
Roma's fans crank up the noise again.
Atletico are rallying against Liverpool. They've just had a perfectly good goal ruled out, then hit the post.
A nice touch from Kalou opens up a chance for Anelka but Doni is out to claim before the striker can get to the ball.
A promising Roma move breaks down with Totti, as he tries one flick too many and Carvalho gets in the way of it.
Bridge gets a generous corner after good work from Cicinho. Mexes is fouled by Terry from it, though it looked like they both had hold of each other's shirts.
Brighi goes down very theatrically after a brush in the face from Carvalho, who had robbed him of the ball. Oh look at that, he's fine now.
Anelka has a pop this time and although his effort was swerving the right way it was still five yards wide.
Mikel is ambushed by four Roma players and wins a free-kick.
Anelka caught offside. I forgot he was playing I must admit.
Belletti wades in with his own long range effort after being urged by the crowd to do so. His is as poor as any of Roma's firs half efforts though.
We begin again..
The end of a pretty boring half all in all. Let's hope for goals in half two.
Bosingwa crosses, Panucci clears. Totti wins free-kick. Crowd howls.
Mikel finds Lampard on the edge of the box but his control is poor and the chance is lost. Not firing on all cylinders yet, Lamps.
Roma seem to be compiling their own 'World's most ambitious efforts on goal' collection after Vucinic tries one from 35 yards out on the left flank. Hilarious.
The referee lets play continue after Deco was upended, but then fails to bring play back when Lampard loses the ball just seconds later. Roma break, winning a corner and Chelsea are furious.
More Totti-based action. He swaps touches with Vucinic then has a pop on the volley. It flies wide.
The game goes a bit scrappy as the ref starts blowing for some silly fouls. The snooze-o-meter goes close to 'deep slumber'.
Lamps has been at it again, shooting wide from 30 yards after a Deco flick.
What a bizarre corner. Totti elects to pass it to the edge of the box where Mikel was waiting, completely on his todd.
Totti bursts to life after megging Lampard then threading a lovely ball to Brighi inside the area. Terry is on hand to block the shot. Corner.
Roma do tend to over-elaborate at times, especially at the back. Could get them in trouble eventually you worry.
Malouda miscontrols in the box as another Chelsea attack breaks down.
Riise goes walkabout after a poor pass but Panucci hacks Bosingwa's cross clear.
Woop woop, useless stat attack. Paases completed: Roma 83, Chelsea 149. Amazing.
The more I see of Malouda the less talented I think he is. He hits a pass straight to Cicinho under no pressure whatsoever, then is booked for a foul as he tries to make amends for his embarrassing error.
Roma are looking increasingly toothless here. Matter of time before Chelsea score, and I drop off.
A Totti flick finds Brighi but his foot is up as he challenges Carvalho and Chelsea have a free kick.
Barcelona are already 3-0 up in Basle. A long night ahead for the Swiss you feel.
Lampard has skimmed the bar with a venomous shot. Doni didn't even move. Great effort.
Mexes is carded after waving a leg at Mikel, who was in full flight. The Chelsea man went down very easily mind. Free kick, in range.
Cech is out to claim as Vucinic tries to slot in the Tot.
Totti takes a dive as Deco wafted a leg in his direction. Before that Brighi slid in to deny Lamps another shooting chance.
A decent spell of possession from Chelsea as both Bridge and Bosingwa pour forward. Nowt comes of it though.
A completely deluded De Rossi tries his luck from the free-kick. It must have been fully 45 yards out. It was only just in front of the centre circle for heaven's sake. Rubbish.
Lamps now slides in on Aquilani who cries foul. Chunky Frank apologises and the ref keeps his cards in his pocket.
Lamps is onto a loose ball again and swipes one but it veers well wide. His radar obviously isn't switched on yet.
Some intricate passing comes a cropper when Lampard's flick finds no-one.
Goal in Madrid, Robbie Keane gives Liverpool the lead against Atletico.
Roma struggling to get a foothold here. Totti not up to much as yet...
Good noise in the stadium. From the away end naturally....
Warning: I've just taken a reload of over-the-counter medication and expect to be drifting in and out from now until half time.
Now Totti has his first punt of the evening but it is much worse than Lamps' effort and nearly heads out for a throw in rather than a corner.
Good hit from Lampard after a poor clearance from Mexes. His right foot volley was heading for the bottom corner before Doni flew across to save.
Malouda receives the ball from Deco about 30 yards out and just chips it straight into Doni's hands. I think only he'd be able to explain what that was supposed to be.
Good pressing from Anelka as Chelsea look to close the visitors down every time they get the ball.
De Rossi has a speculative punt from 40 yards. Terrible effort.
Malouda's ball finds Anelka offside. He'd found plenty of space in between Roma's centre backs mind.
Chelsea of course are steamrollering everyone put in front of them at the minute, humbling Middlesbro' 5-0 at the weekend. And, some of their big names are beginning to trickle back from injury, Deco and Carvalho being the most prominent tonight.
Roma tip up at Stamford Bridge on the back of a 4-0 home larrupping by Inter Milan at the weekend, and of course, they were shocked by Transylvanian unknowns CFR Cluj on UCL matchday one. They did win 3-1 in Bordeaux though. Still, the pressure is definitely on Luciano Spalletti.
A word of warning about your commentator this evening. I'm dosed right up with the man flu, so expect even worse gags than usual, muddled explanations and occasional gaps in updates when I nod off under the sheer weight of little capsules I've taken.
