The ref blows the final whistle and United go through despite a below par performance. They are in Friday's draw for the quarter-finals for the first time in four seasons.
The game is underway again. Obraniak squares up to Smith but nothing happens. Lille still need two goals.
Silvestre is still down at Old Trafford. He is being put on a stretcher.
Time is up at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are out.
Silvestre clashes with Chalme hits the deck head first. He looks in trouble and the medical team are on the pitch to provide treatment.
Park and Smith are doing all the running for United. The substitutes take possession from defence and drive the forward into Lille territory....more time ticks away.
United keep the ball deep in Lille territory. smith backs into his defender, spins and hits a near-post shot that Sylva has to save.
Keita has not given up, he is still driving the midfield but their hopeful balls into the box are not finding their targets.
Five mintues to go and United are taking their time over everything now...it feels like job done.
Lille are frustrated and tempers boil as Richardson fouls a defender and gets booked.
News from the Emirates. PSV have scored to make it 1-1, 2-1 on aggregate, and Arsenal need to score twice.
United make another change. Rooney and Ronaldo go off, Park and Richardson come on.
Lille are staring to panic. they need two goals and are resorting to shots from distance, rather than the tactics that caused all the problems earlier on.
Makoun attempts to manufacture space for a shot, Obraniak hits a long-range effort instead. It goes wide.
Lille haven't given up yet. Tafforeau overlaps down the left flank and his cross/shot has Van Der Sar scrambling but his effort drifts wide.
Lille make another change as Fauvergue comes on for Dumont and they go to 4-2-4 formation.
Larsson stop and turns to wave to the fans on the touchline and that looks like the actions of a man who knows he won't be extending his loan deal from Helsingborgs.
United also make a change. Larsson goes off to a standing ovation and Alan Smith, who has been injured for a long time, comes on to one.
Lille make a change Mirallas replaces Odenwingie, who can't end his goal drought.
1-0. Larsson marks his last appearence at Old Trafford, before returning to Sweden, with a goal. United's only attempt on goal in the second-half.
Ronaldo beats Chalme down the flank with pace and trickery. Larsson waits for the cross and heads home from the penatly spot. GOAL!!!!!!!
Giggs warms up on the touch line. United badly need his experience and guile on the pitch at the moment.
It falls to Ferdinand to lift his colleagues with a great run to beat two players down the flank. O'Shea takes a blow to the head and the ref stops the game.
Carrick swings in the corner, Sylva comes off his line and misses the ball but their is nobody to head it in at the back post.
O'Shea wins a corner and the fans find their voice.
This is woeful from United. The Reds finally scramble the ball out to the flank with some scrappy possession only for Silvestre to hit the cross straight out of play.
Lille are taking every opportunity to cross the ball now as they look for a vital goal. The United fans attempt to lift their team.
Obraniak whips in great freekick and Van Der Sar gets taken out as he punches clear.
...Carrick aims for Vidic at the back post. The defender heads over the bar whilst having his shirt tugged.
Plestan goes through the back of Rooney and gets booked. Chance for a set-piece for United...
Very scrappy game now. It's like watching the Windscreen Shield trophy...not the Champions League.
Rooney is trying to make something happen but it's just a lot of huff and puff. United lack a spark.
Arsenal have taken the lead at the Emirates against PSV. 1-1 on aggregate.
Now it's Lilles turn to test the United defence. The Reds look a little more rag-tag than the French but hold firm.
United are enjoying possession in two thirds of the pitch but have offered very little in the final third.
Carrick starts a slick United move but the Reds can't find a way through Lille and the ball goes all the way back to Van Der Sar.
Ronaldo gets past Chalme at last and delivers a cross from the left. Sylva can't punch clear but Rooney's hook back into the box falls to a Lille defender.
Rooney crosses to near post and Vidic heads wide. that was much better from United, who have started slowly.
Rooney and Neville combine down the right. Tafforeau brings down Neville, gets booked, and United can swing in a freekick.
Keita is showing more drive than the entire United midfield and he fires of another, ultimately poor, effort from distance.
Odemwingie heads against the post after a scramble in the box. Much like in the first leg in France Lille are the better side after the break.
Keita makes quick start for Lille. He beats Vidic but gets the ball stuck under his feet and his long-range shot lacks any power.
Lille make a change for the Second-half. Debuchy replaces Bastos on the left flank.
United started the game well but Lille asked some tough questions towards the end of the first-half and could have taken the lead just before the break. Fergie will demand more from his side in the second-half.
Chalme whips in a great cross, Odemwingie stretches to divert it into the net but is a few inches too short and Van Der Sar gathers.
Obraniak attempts to go past Neville, but the defender keeps pace and guides the ball out for a goalkick.
Tavlaridis is up to the challenge posed by Ronaldo and their battle is becoming the fulcrum of the game at the moment.
...Ronaldo goes down very theatrically and gets booked for diving. There was a challenge, but probably the right decision from the ref.
Rooney runs at the defence and slots the ball out left to Ronaldo. The winger drives into the box, a Lille defender hangs out a leg and Ronaldo hits the deck...
Gary Neville fools everybody with a backheel, even Scholes who panics and loses possession.
Obraniak has little bump with Rooney and the two share words. There is a little ill-feeling bubbling under the surface hear.
Lille are really getting into this game now. Hitting United on the break.
Odemwingie shoots and Keita diverts the effort goalwards. Van Der Sar scrambles across his goal but the flag is up for offside.
...The ref realises his mistkae and books Chalme. Nearly another 'spat the dummy' situation there.
Keita gets booked for a foul on Ronaldo early in the previous move but it was Chalme. Keita is furious...
Ronaldo races down the left, Larsson finds Rooney, but the striker has a heavy touch and the chance goes begging.
Ronaldo takes a throw but Silvestre thinks he is giving him the ball to take the throw and the ref blows for handball. The French fullback heads the resulting freekick clear.
...and it's straight at the wall again. Two chances and both wasted by Ronaldo. The winger really needs to improve tonight.
....Ronaldo hits it straight at the wall but Makoun has encroached and gets booked. Ronaldo to take it again....
Tavlaridis climbs all over Larsson. Ronaldo will take the freekick from about 30-yards out....
Obraniak's corner keeps the pressure on United but O'Shea heads clear as the makeshift centre-back.
Lille press in Vidic's absence. Odemwingie shoots from distance and wins a corner.
Obraniak lofts the ball forward. Vidic gets an elbow in the face from Odemwingie and has to get his bloodied nose cleaned up.
Keita drives at United defence and O'Shea tackles. Scholes breaks quickly, plays a one-two with Neville and brings a save out of Sylva with a long-range shot.
Larsson is caught by Plestan. Neville will hoof the freekick into the box. Makoun heads clear.
A patient build-up from United stalls with Ronaldo, again.
Lille have a freekick, which they don't take quickly, and Makoun has a free header at the far post. The forward shoots straight at Van Der Sar.
Neville is pushing well forward for United, who have no desire to play for the draw that would send them through. Fergie's men are going for the win.
Ronaldo ducks and weaves down the right wing but he still hasn't really produced anything yet. He was hauled of in the first leg after being ineffective.
ronaldo and Tafforeau clash heads. the Lille skipper has come off worse....unless of course he is going for an Oscar.
Odenwingie out paces Neville but has a rush off blood and shoots well wide from about 300 yards out.
From the corner O'Shea's header hits the crossbar and Lille are lucky to escape with the keeper flapping all over the place.
Scholes goes past Plestan and chips the ball to the back post, Rooney blasts a volley and Chalme somehow gets a block in.
Silvestre takes a poor touch and Keita wins possession back for the visitors...but again it comes to nothing.
Lille have offered very little so far.
Rooney floats the ball up to Larsson, who chests the ball back to Ronaldo. Plestan blocks the Portuguese's shot from the edge of the box.
Tafforeau builds a Lille attack down the left. Carrick tracks back and gets a foot in. Keita can't find a teammate and hoofs the ball right to Van Der Sar in the United goal.
Scholes lofts a perfect pass to Larsson, who has beaten the offside trap but can't get the ball under control.
Makoun gets fouled in the centre circle. Odenwingie brings the ball down on the edge of the box but Ferdinand snuffs out the danger on the edge of his own box.
Larsson works the right flank and wins a throw. Lille force United back into their own half but Fergies side are happy to keep the ball deep - they are winning after all.
Ronaldo takes the ball off Neville's toe, takes on two players and then loses the ball. He gets a fierce stare from Neville.
Keita handballs. Scholes pings a long-ball out to rooney on the left. The ref blows for offside - great vision from Scholes though.
Ferdinand scuffs his clearence but Odemwingie can't find a decent pass and trouble is avoided.
Scholes makes a typical challenge early on and the ref has to calm the recipient down.
Rooney starts on the left with O'Shea, Scholes and Carrick making three in the centre of the pitch.
The teams are out. United wearing their normal red and white kit. Lille are in yellow and kick from left to right.
United lead 1-0 on aggregate through Giggs' controversial, quickly taken freekick in France - which has sparked a war of words between the two clubs ahead of this return leg.
Manchester United will be keen to get an early goal to settle nerves, especially as they have limited striker options on the bench with the news that Luis Saha is out for one month.
