Old Trafford, England

Referee: Markus Merk

  • 90'

FULL TIME - A shock result but a deserved point for the visitors. England lacked a real cutting edge in attack and the inspirational Wayne Rooney will need to re-discover his form quickly, hopefully for England by Wednesday night when they take on Croatia.

  • 90'

Right at the death, Ledley King hits it high and hopeful towards Crouch but the big striker is unable to direct his header on target. A great chance but that's it.

  • 90'

Terry cuts out Maznov's cross in to the England penalty area.

  • 88'

A diagonal pass from Gerrard finds Crouch who chests the ball down and beats his man in one move. He shoots from an acute angle when he maybe should have cut it back. The corner which England have is scant consolation and is wasted.

  • 87'

A great cross from Gary Neville finds the diminutive Defoe when Crouch's aerial presence was required. The Spurs man is unable to trouble the keeper.

  • 86'

Nikoloski comes off his line to punch the ball off the head of Crouch.

  • 84'

A fantastic run from Wright-Philips who beats three men and then plays in Gerrard whose rasping shot crashes back off the bar. So unlucky.

  • 83'

Maznov hits a shot which could more accurately be described as a back-pass to Paul Robinson.

  • 82'

Pandev is off and Darko Tasevski comes on to replace him.

  • 81'

Wonderful piece of skill from Crouch who first chests a long ball from King before swivelling and hitting a shot from twenty-five yards out which goes just wide.

  • 80'

Crouch once more gets on the end of a cross in to the box but he is met by Nikoloski who manages to punch the ball away.

  • 79'

Macedonia look as if they believe they can win this game and are playing with three men forward.

  • 78'

A long ball from Carrick towards Jermaine Defoe but the Spurs striker is unable to control it.

  • 77'

Stojkov's every touch is met with a chorus of boos after his piece of play-acting.

  • 76'

A minor scuffle has broken out after a late challenge on Crouch. Handbags at dawn.

  • 75'

Stojkov's pace once more troubles England and Ledley King has to come back to make a crunching tackle on the flying sub who is now writhing around in mock agony.

  • 74'

Lazarevski runs the ball out of play to give England the throw.

  • 73'

Rooney is being substituted to make way for Jermaine Defoe. Another disappointing performance from Rooney today.

  • 72'

Mitreski gets back to put his foot in and deny Rooney in the penalty area.

  • 71'

At the other end Ashley Cole again comes to the rescue to clear the ball off his own goal-line. The Chelsea man has made some telling contributions in the last few minutes.

  • 70'

Within seconds of his arrival, Crouch feeds Wright-Philips who slips inside his man and hits a shot which goes straight at the keeper. Maybe he had a bit more time to take the ball on.

  • 69'

Downing is taken off and replaced by Shaun Wright-Philips.

  • 68'

Crouch just fails to get on the end of a cross in to the box. It comes to Downing whose poor shot just about sums up his performance today.

  • 68'

Scotland have scored by the way.

  • 67'

Crouch makes a quite shocking pass across the middle of the park and Ashley Cole is forced to scamper back to get England out of trouble when Macedonia break.

  • 66'

Petrov takes a dive which the referee ignores.

  • 65'

Terry comes forward but Macedonia are able to get the ball away.

  • 65'

Crouch plays the ball to Rooney whose first touch forces him wide but his shot wins England a corner.

  • 64'

Noveski makes a great tackle on Crouch who dithered in possession when he had options available to him.

  • 63'

Cole plays a long ball in towards Crouch who gets his head to it but the ball floats wide of the goal.

  • 62'

Sumulikoski is caught offside at the other end.

  • 61'

Gerrard charges through the middle of the park and shouts for a free-kick when he appears to be impeded. The ref waves play on.

  • 60'

A free-kick in Beckham territory. In his absence Lampard and Rooney stand over the ball. The former is unable to get a sight on goal when Rooney lays it off to him and passes to Gerrard. His long range shot is poor and goes wide.

  • 58'

Now Rooney does well to hold off Noveski but then seems unsure of his next move and allows the Macedonian defence time to get back and take the ball from him.

  • 57'

Now Crouch hits a header which Nikolski does well to get down and parry out. It only goes as far as Gary Neville though. Just as well for Macedonia - the United player blasts his effort high and wide when he should have scored.

  • 56'

Gerrard hits a cross in towards Crouch who sizes up a spectacular bicycle kick but the Macedonian defence get to it first.

  • 56'

The referee blows up for a free-kick to England.

  • 55'

Stojkov shows fantastic feet to skin Ledley king and force a great save from Robinson. Corner to Macedonia.

  • 52'

Mitrevski out-jumps the England defence to steer a header a foot over the England bar. A real scare for England who really need to find a goal from somehwere.

  • 52'

Downing plays in Gerrard who wins a throw. When the ball comes back in to play Macedonia are able to win it back and get a corner.

  • 51'

Stojkov the subsitute puts Ledley King under pressure with a run through the middle but he is lacking support and England are able to clear.

  • 49'

Gerrard tries an ambitious half volley from thirty yards out which goes straight to Nikoloski.

  • 48'

The free-kick is in a dangerous position thirty yards out. Ledley King charges out from the wall to block the shot.

  • 47'

England fail to make the corner count but continue to press Macedonia. They lose the ball though and Macedonia attack. Now Gerrard is cautioned after a lunging tackle and his booking means he is suspended for the Croatia game in mid-week.

  • 47'

When the ball comes in to the box Lamaprd connects with a glancing header which is pushed behind for a corner.

  • 46'

Gerrard is fouled out on the right and Petrov is booked for the challenge which is very late.

  • 45'

Stojkoc is on as a subsitute for Macedonia who re-start the game.

  • 45'

HALF-TIME Macedonia will be well pleased with their performance so far and have arguably played the better football. Steve McLaren will have to give his players a stern talking to at half-time to re-invigorate them.

  • 44'

At the other end Downing plays a cross in to the box but Macedonia are able to clear after Rooney fails to control the ball.

  • 43'

Robinson is forced to punch the ball when it comes in to the box. England have not had things all their own way in this game.

  • 43'

Neville makes a clumsy tackle from behind on Naumoski to concede a rather needless free-kick.

  • 41'

Lampard dinks the ball aound the Mitreski but Nikoloski does well to come and claim the ball.

  • 39'

Naumoksi beats Gerrard and heads for the by-line. His cross is perfectly placed but there are no Macedonian players in the penalty area to meet it. A good chance for the first goal.

  • 39'

The lanky frame of Peter Crouch once more rises to deal with the danger and head the ball away.

  • 38'

Gary Neville is forced to concede a corner at the back post with a covering header after poor play from Ashley Cole.

  • 37'

Naumoski hits a poor free-kick straight in to the welcoming arms of Paul Robinson.

  • 36'

Mitrevski hits an inviting cross in to the England box from the right. Petrov meets it with a thunderous volley which troubles nobody other than the good people of row z.

  • 34'

Robinson is called in to action for the first time and has to come off his line to smother a ball through the middle that Pandev was chasing.

  • 33'

Looking as if he has been taking notes from the England players, Naumoski hits a woeful cross in to the Stretford End when he was under no real pressure out on the left. A waste.

  • 33'

Ledley King gets back to make a covering tackle on Naumoski.

  • 32'

Carrick does well to win the ball and gives it Gerrard who is now out on the left flank. The story is the same though and once more the final ball is poor.

  • 29'

A typical piece of dynamic midfield play from Gerrard who bursts through the middle to nick the ball after another misplaced pass from Downing. He gets towards the box but can't find a team-mate with his pass.

  • 28'

Neville's long throw finds the head of Peter Crouch but when the ball is knocked down there are no England players on hand to take advantage.

  • 27'

Downing's early ball is poor and straight at the Macedonian defence. So far the Middlesbrough man has not provided his strikers with decent service.

  • 26'

    Rooney is caught offside.

  • 25'

Rooney harries the Macedonian defence in to conceding a throw before unleashing a customary volley of expletive-laden vitriol at the referee. What a charmer he is.

  • 24'

The biggest man on the pitch also comes back though and Crouch heads the ball away.

  • 24'

Macedonia have a corner and their big men come forward.

  • 23'

A fantastic fifty yard ball from Carrick finds Gerrard but the final ball in to the box is, once more, poor.

  • 22'

Crouch rises to get on the end of a high cross but Nikoloski does well to come and collect.

  • 21'

Cole does well to keep the ball in play and then Downing wins a throw on the left.

  • 19'

Cole comes forward and finds Rooney on the eighteen yard line but his touch and control are poor and Macedonia get rid of the danger.

  • 18'

Gerrard forces a thrown deep in Macedonia's half to gain England some ground which they lose almost immediately.

  • 17'

Neville shows great composure to deal with the threat of Pandev and clear the ball. The Manchester United man is putting in an assured performance here so far.

  • 16'

Rooney gets back to make a fine covering tackle.

  • 14'

Team-mates Neville and Carrick link up well with the midfielder playing the full-back in before Neville hits a cross in to the box. The pass is poor and it is easily dealt with.

  • 13'

Downing misplaces a pass and gives away the ball cheaply. Poor play from the winger.

  • 10'

At the other end a scare for England as Lazio's Pandev jinks in to the England defence but can't hit the target with his effort. A cross then comes in towards Maznov but Ledley King gets back to win the header.

  • 9'

Rooney tries a long pass to feed Crouch but it is over-ambitious and over-hit.

  • 8'

England attack down the left now but Downing's cross is easily dealt with.

  • 7'

Great play from Neville who charges through the midfield before unleashing the marauding Gerrard on the right. His cross is cleared by the Macedonia defence.

  • 6'

Macedonia are knocking the ball around with caution but are managing to keep possession and frustrate England.

  • 5'

Lampard hits a wasteful long range effort.

  • 4'

The ball comes in and when it does Terry appeals for a penalty claiming his shirt was pulled. His pleas are ignored.

  • 3'

Fine play from Rooney who collects a high ball and centres it over towards Crouch who connects with a poor header. England have a corner.

  • 2'

Cool play from Gary Neville to get himself out of trouble on the right hand touchline.

  • 1'

Poor close control from Crouch gives Macedonia a throw-in.

Rooney chases a long ball over the top but keeper Nikoloski is first to it.

Crouch is fouled immediately and England are awarded a free-kick.

England kick off attacking the goal to the right, Madedonia line up in their strip of all red.

England line up at Old Trafford today in Steve McLaren's favoured 4-4-2 formation. Rio Ferdinand is an absentee due to injury and is doubtful for Wednesday's Croatia qualifier. Ledley King deputises for the Manchester United defender. In midfield, Michael Carrick assumes the holding role whilst Owen Hargreaves continues his recovery from injury. Up front, Peter Crouch partners Wayne Rooney who will be hoping to end his recent slump in form in front of a capacity Old Trafford.
