Frankenstadion, Nuremberg, Germany
Referee: Valentin Ivanov (RUS)
FULL-TIME: THE single-most ridiculous second-half of football I have ever had the privilege to witness. Four red cards and 16 yellows. The up-shot? Portugal set up a quarter-final with England.
SENDING OFF! UNBELIEVABLE! Van Bronkhorst is shown a second yellow card for a foul on Deco on the edge of the area. Another very harsh decision from the referee.
Ricardo is fortunate to win a free-kick as he comes through a crowd to claim a high ball.
The Dutch fans are starting to realise their World Cup is just a couple of minutes from ending; there are some very glum faces in the crowd.
Holland are running out of ideas.
There will be six minutes of stoppage time; it should probably have been more, considering all the stoppages.
We have another stoppage as Thiago is treated for cramp.
SO CLOSE! Sneijder sends over a tempting low pass across the face of goal, but Kuyt can't extend his leg far enough to prod past Ricardo.
SAVE! Ricardo saves Kuyt's shot from the edge of the area.
Miguel breaks down the right; Simao clearly runs off-side and is found by Miguel's cross. I'm not sure why he thought that was a good idea.
For what seems like the first time this evening, the referee awards a free-kick without booking the offender.
Holland are trying to press and keep Portugal under pressure, but Scolari's men are doing a good job of cleaning up the scraps on the edge of their area.
England will be licking their lips at this; whoever they face in the quarter-finals, they are going to have a depleted side because of the suspensions and injuries.
HOLLAND SUB: Vennegoor of Hesselink comes on to replace Cocu; Holland are just going to launch long balls forward to Vennegoor of Hesselink.
PORTUGAL SUB: Figo is brought off, replaced by Thiago; a defensive replacement for the final ten minutes or so.
Play finally gets underway after a lengthy stoppage to allow treatment to Ricardo, who seems to be fine now.
Ricardo needs some treatment after taking a boot in the arm from Kuyt as he bravely saved at his feet a moment or two ago.
BRAVE SAVE! Kuyt breaks the off-side trap, goes through on goal, but Ricardo makes a brave save at his feet.
It is going to be a frantic finish to the match; Holland are pressing for an equaliser, but Portugal have got plenty men back and are looking threatening when they break.
This is ridiculous; the referee has had a shocker. It hasn't been the cleanest of games, but three red cards and 11 yellows - that's silly.
ANOTHER SENDING OFF! Deco is shown a second yellow card, for holding on to the ball too long after a free-kick decision goes against him.
The referee is losing control of this match.
12 bookings, and counting - Nuno Valente is booked for hacking down Van Persie; this is getting silly.
Make that 11 yellow cards; Ricardo is booked for time-wasting.
As far as I can make out, we've had ten yellow cards and two reds.
Van der Vaart and Sneijder were both booked for their part in that altercation; I've lost count on how many bookings we've had.
Following the Deco booking, Sneijder pushed a Portugal player to the ground, prompting a 10-man scuffle.
Portugal are furious when Holland refuse to give them the ball back after a stoppage for Carvalho's injury. Deco is frustrated and trips Cocu, and is booked for the challenge.
Carvalho is taken from the field for some treatment after he took a blow throwing himself at that shot on the edge of the area.
GOOD DEFENDING! Robben gets to the by-line and chips a cross in to the middle, but Valente gets an important header in. Carvalho then throws himself at a shot to block a goal-bound effort.
Still Holland are having a lot more of the ball than Portugal, who look content to try and play on the break and explot the space at the back.
GOOD PLAY! NO-ONE THERE! Van Persie turns Valente, leaves him on his bum, before firing a low pass across the face of goal; unfortunately for Holland, no-one is there to turn the ball home.
DEFLECTED! Kuyt's shot from distance is deflected, but Ricardo has everything behind it and claims comfortably.
HOLLAND SUB: Heitinga comes on to replace Van Bommel; surprising, because Van Bommel had occasionally looked threatening from long-range.
Deco is starting to become an increasingly important figure for Portugal; he is playing in an attacking midfield role, and is starting to pull the strings.
Holland had brought a defender off for a midfielder, and had gone to three at the back, previous to the sending off - Cocu has dropped in to defence to cover.
So, we're down to ten versus ten; Portugal have the lead, and will feel confident of holding on to it now that the numbers have been levelled.
The sending off brings about a slight altercation between a few players and the benches; Ouijer seemed to be in the middle of it all, but it soon settles down.
SENDING OFF! Boulahrouz is shown the second yellow card as Figo collapses to the turf after catching a flailing arm from the defender.
Deco bursts clear from midfield, but Boulahrouz shows good pace to get back and put a tackle in on the edge of the area.
OVER! Figo takes the free-kick, but he curls his shot on to the roof of the net.
Figo is belatedly shown the yellow card; presumably he was informed of the headbut by one of his officials.
Television replays are showing Figo headbut Van Bommel in the aftermath following the foul on Deco.
Deco is brought down by Van Bronkhorst on the edge of the penalty area; the referee flashes the yellow card to the Dutch full-back.
SAVE! Figo holds the ball up well before finding Maniche on the ede of the area, but his shot is well saved by Van der Sar.
HOLLAND SUB: Van der Vaart comes on to replace Mathijsen; the young attacking midfielder comes on as Holland change their shape to 3-4-3.
Van Basten has Van Nistelrooy on the bench, should he want to further strengthen his front-line.
The game has really opened up now; there is a lot of space and the Dutch are beginning to exploit it.
NOT THIS TIME! Van Bommel again takes adavantage of some space to fire in a long-range shot, but this time he skies it high over the crossbar.
Kuyt wins his side a corner when his low cross is blocked. Van Persie curls it in, but the centre goes over everyone's heads and runs out of play.
Netherlands have started this second half well; they will be encouraged with the early assault on the Portuguese goal.
SO CLOSE! Van Bommel fires in a fierce low shot; Ricardo dives and gets some glove on the ball, turning it just around the post for a corner.
Petit is booked for a foul on Van Bommel; the referee is very quick to bring out his cards.
OFF THE BAR! HOW DID HE MISS! Van Persie's cross from the left finds its way to the feet of Cocu, but he smashes a shot off the underside of the bar from just six yards.
Simao breaks down the left, but he loses his footing as he cut inside and Cocu is able to clear.
Netherlands only occasionally threatened in the first half; but they have a man advantage now, and should be able to exploit the space more in the second half.
It looks like Figo is playing up front now, supporting by Deco and Simao.
PORTUGAL SUB: Petit has come on for Pauleta during the break as Scolari looks to reshuffle following the sending off.
Netherlands kick off the second half.
HALF-TIME: Portugal have the lead, but Holland started to look strong as the half progressed and have the benefit of an extra man after the break.
OFF! Costinha is shown a second yellow card for a deliberate handball in midfield. Ridiculous handball from the midfielder, and Portugal have to play the remainder with a man down.
WHAT A SAVE! Stunning save from Van der Sar as Pauleta spins and fires a low shot towards goal from eight yards out.
RUBBISH! Sneijder curls the free-kick high over the crossbar. Dreadful effort.
Holland win a free-kick right on the edge of the penalty area after Van Bronkorst is pushed. Sneijder and Van Persie stand over the set-piece...
PENALTY? NO! Valente flattens Robben with a high boot inside the penalty area, but the referee has already blown for an off-side.
Holland have a good spell with the ball, but Portugal are working really hard and they force the Dutch back to the half-way line.
Ouijer is caught by Costinha, who has already been booked, but the referee can't be talked in to a second yellow by the crowd of Dutch players who surround him.
Holland are starting to look a little better going forward now; Robben and Van Persie look really confident and direct with the ball at their feet.
GOOD SKILL, AWFUL FINISH! Van Persie baffles the Portuguese defence as he cuts in from the right, but he shanks his shot wide from a tight angle at close range.
Carvalho concedes a cheap corner when his attempted clearance from Kuyt's cross is sliced out of play.
Holland have enjoyed more of the possession, but Portugal have been very organised in defence and the Dutch haven't really threatened.
Ronaldo sheds a few tears on the bench as he comes to terms with his substitution; I wonder if he will be fit for the quarter-finals, should Portugal make it.
PORTUGAL SUB: Ronaldo hasn't recovered from his injury, and is replaced by Simao.
Meira's slip hands a chance to Robben; he slides the ball across to Kuyt, who in turn finds Van Persie, but Portugal quickly get men behind the ball and the chance goes.
Costinha becomes the fourth player to be booked after mis-timing a sliding challenge on Cocu.
The referee is starting to annoy a few of the Dutch players; a couple of decisions have gone against them that they didn't agree with.
NERVOUS MOMENT! Miguel puts a tackle in to stop Robben's threatening run, but the ball loops upwards and drops just over the Portugal crossbar for a corner.
Ronaldo seems to have shrugged off his thigh injury; he leads a Portugal counter-attack with a skillful flicked pass.
ALMOST! Maniche goes for glory again as he fires a shot a couple of yards over the crossbar from the edge of the area.
Van Persie tries to find Kuyt in the box with an inswinging cross from the right, but the off-side flag halts the Feyenoord striker in his tracks.
SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER! Mathijsen skies a shot high over the bar after the ball fell at his feet at a corner.
How will Netherlands respond to that? I think the goal should spark this match; we could have a classic if Holland respond in the right way.
It was a lovely goal from Portugal; his side-step to beat Mathijsen bought him the space he needed, and he gave Van der Sar no chance with his shot.
GOAL! Maniche does wonderfully well as he takes a lay-off from Pauleta, beats his man inside the area before lashing a shot in to the top corner.
There are probably a few more Dutch fans inside the Frankenstadion tonight, but it is quite an even split; there is quite a tense, nervous atmosphere at the moment, but it is starting to pick up.
It has been rather a tentative start to the match by both sides; neither has been prepared to get too many players forward at this early stage.
Maniche is booked for a challenge on Van Bommel; the referee has made a rod for his own back with these early bookings.
Robben is amazed when he doesn't win a free-kick for a shocking dive; I hate diving.
Portugal have started to come back in to the game after a slow start; they are having quite a lot of joy down their right flank.
Portugal win a corner after good play by Deco; he swings the set-piece in to the middle, but Holland deal with the threat well.
GOOD FEET! Robben beats the off-side flag, but is forced wide by the pass; he beats his marker inside the area with some quick feet, but his lay-off to Van Bommel is intercepted.
Ronaldo is off the field at the moment, receiving treatment on what seems to be a thigh injury. He doesn't look very happy with life.
WIDE! Van Persie confidently cuts in from the right before firing in a low shot, but it skids wide of the far post.
The winners of this tie will face England in the quarter-finals next weekend; the way Sven's men have been playing, I don't think either would be losing too much sleep.
Marco Van Basten is the youngest coach at the World Cup; he looks very smart in a shirt and tie this evening.
Robben winces as he falls after trying - and failing - to control Cocu's pass down the left wing.
Ronaldo doesn't appear to have been able to shake off the knock he took during the challenge with Boulahrouz a couple of minutes ago; he is limping around, looking ver sorry for himself.
BLOCKED! Ronaldo cuts in from the left wing and fires in a shot from distance, but Ouijer gets in the way and blocks.
JUST OFF-SIDE! Pauleta is flagged off-side as he is found by a pass in from Valente.
Boulahrouz is booked for a strong challenge on Ronaldo; it was a little harsh to show the full-back the yellow card for that; it was clumsy, but not malicious.
Kuyt has been brought in by Van Basten to replace Van Nistelrooy this evening; there are a lot of Premiership clubs eyeing a move for the big Feyenoord striker.
Portugal are lining up with a 4-2-3-1 formation, Holland in their traditional 4-3-3, with Robben and Van Persie supporting Kuyt from the flanks.
Both of these teams are unbeaten in 15 matches, so come in to this game in good shape; they are attractive sides to watch, also - we should be in for a good game.
EASY SAVE! Van Bronkhorst fires a low free-kick through a crowd from 35 yards, but Ricardo has a good view of the shot and claims comfortably.
Holland have made a good start here; they have had the better of the early minutes, certainly.
Goalkeeper Van der Sar is making his 113th appearance for Holland this evening; that's a national record.
Van Bommel is booked very early on; that's not ideal for such a combative player.
SO CLOSE! GREAT START! Van Bommel flashes a low drive past the post after a nice move from the Dutch.
Holland are playing in their change strip of white shirts with blue shorts; very retro.
Portugal kick off on another warm summer's night in Nuremburg.
Hello, welcome to our coverage of Portugal's second round clash against Holland.
