At that's your lot. A professional job by Chelsea but not without riding out some early pressure from the home side at the startof each half. Duff and Robben shone and look like they can play together against any opposition. The goal they worked between them was worth watching for alone. Chelsea are the first team through to the next round and on this evidence deserve it.
Ball is finally worked out of the corner and, witht he last attack of the game, CSKA go close. A wonderful flighted diagonal ball picks out Gusev on the right and his first time cut back is heading for a CSKA man until Terry typically gets in the way.
Free-kick won by the flag and, yes, it's a short one...
Free-kick for Chelsea down by the left corner flag is only going one place with the score as it is. All crowded round the corner for a little while then eh?
Chelsea fans already celebrating as the visotors are controlling the end of this half.
A purposeful run from Duff and a clever through ball encourages Lampard to hit it first time across the keeper. It was going in but the keeper was well placed to deal with it.
Not so happy to see a burning flare land next to him that requires the intervention of the local fire brigade.
Jarosik goes close with an acrobatic scissor kick on the edge of the box after Terry could only head on a decent corner. Cech is pleased to see it sail just wide of his left hand post.
Ferreira comes bombing forward but without retaining control of the ball and he is grateful for Tiago to halt the resulting CSKA break with a deliberate foul that escapes further punishment. I beleive that is what they term 'professional' play.
Tiago is afforded an enormous amount of space in the CSKA half into which to stride before letting fly from 25 yards. He had plenty of time to line it up but instead blazed it high and wide. Very poor.
Final substitution for CSKA is Kirichenko for Love.
Kezman latched on to a quick throw to get behind the CSKA defence and send over an intelligent cut back that very nearly broke to Robben.
Olic shows a bit of fustration in chasing down Makelele and fouling him all ends up. His is the latest name in the referee's notebook.
The pace has gone out of this game and you suspect that has happened deliberately on Chelsea's part.
Chelsea free-kick out wide on the right is one from the training ground but doesn't quite come off. Robben ran over it then Lampard cut it to him to shoot but the pass was a little hard and Robben just sliced it as he fell over. Nice idea lads, but practice a bit more next time.
And again. Kezman chased down a soft back pass but Akinfeev just gets there to clear before the Serb slides straight through his legs when there was no need. A yellow card is shown and rightly so.
All kezman is doing in trying to make an impact on this game is go around and foul people.
Huge free-kick played into the CSKA box is all the way Akinfeev's until Kezman gave him a shove to concede a foul.
Olic is welcomed to the game by a boke shaking but fair challenge from Terry on the edge of the box.
A more adventerous move from the home bench sees the popular Semak (a hard working midfield man) replaced by Croatian Ivica Olic (a busy striker).
Kezman's first contribution is to shoot and miss.
Another like for like swap from Chelsea as Gudjohsen gets a rest and the now prolific (one in one) Mateja Kezman gets a run.
A rare Chelsea second-half attack has Duff crossing from the left for Robben who is crowded out.
Chelsea substitution is a curious one as Tiago replaces Parker. A like for like swap when it looks like Chelsea need to reorganise their formation to deal with an ever improving CSKA side.
Johnson rides his luck a bit considering he is on a yellow card by cutting down Zhirkov again but the referee takes no further action.
Worrying times for Chelsea and Mourinho is all worry lines and anxious pacing on the touchline.
Free-kick cut back to the edge of the box finds Ignashevich whose low stright shot pings around the box from a couple of ricochets with Cech all over the place. ventually the ball is floated in again and Love fluffs a header that was at best a half-chance.
Zhirkov, the home team's best player tonight, earns a free-kick on the left hand side of the box as Johnson scythed through him. For that he was booked.
But it is CSKA who are looking the more dangerous. A firm driven shot from Jarosik stings the palms of Cech.
Chelsea enjoying more attacking possession at themoment, primarily because Robben is dropping deeper to collect the ball.
Parker once more shows his commitment to the cause by covering when Ferrera was skinned by Zhirkov with a solid tackle.
A wild challenge from Terry is lucky not to have caught a full flying Love. That Love carried on for a bit and then fell looking for a foul reflects poorly on him and not the Chelsea man.
Robben shows he has some steel to add to his silk by winning a meaty challenge in the centre of the pitch.
A substitution I have spotted is the removal of left-back William Gallas to be replaced by Paulo Ferreira (a right-back).
Eugeni Aldonin slipped on to the pitch to replace Milos Krasic at half-time without me noticing. Sorry about that.
CSKA work the ball wide left to Gusev and his high, looping cross drops invitingly for Zhirkov at the far post but his attempted volley bounces off his shin and behind.
Once more Chelsea happy to allow CSKA to enjoy the ball across the middle as long as they aren't going anywhere.
alert goalkeeping from Cech. Love span off Carvalho to get away from him but Cech was off his line in a flash to smother the bal at his feet.
Up steps Love to blaze the ball high over the bar. Truly awful penalty that one is probably still going even now.
But this times it comes to something. A wondeful through ball behind the previously faultless Johnson to Zhirkov who is haulled down by the Chelsea man for a penalty.
Cska start the second half in the same way as the first, with possession football.
The goal that decorated the first-half was a crafted gem and every time Chelsea break they look potent (the bits in between, though solid and efficient, make watching them less of a pleasure than it should be, though).
Half-time arrives with Chelsea half way through a job well done. CSKA have had most of the possession but have produced little in the way of chances; Chelsea the opposite, with Robben the star of their counter attacking show.
Great ball over the top from Parker seeks out and finds Robben in the area but the lineman's flag curtails any further heroics from the Dutchman.
A sense now of both sides waiting for the half-time break.
Semak, a talismanic figure in these parts, is doing his best to gee up the troops with some surging runs down the right but every time he goes he has two Chelsea men for company and gets nowhere fast.
Crowd a little subdued as Chelsea are really in control of this one now.
Love is back on the pitch but running a little tentatively.
Semak tries his luck from distance but the shot is a poor one.
Love went down in a great deal of pain after the shot. Looked as if he was clutching the back of his leg or hamstring. Goes off and CSKA down to 10 for the moment.
Vagner Love very nearly makes something out of nothing. Slaloming his way through a strong Chelsea back line, low to the ground, he spun and unleashed a powerful shot that was goalbound until Cech reached out one handed to save. Best attempt of the game from the home side.
Patient keep ball from Chelsea all across the middle of the pitch eventually breaks down as Lampard slipped in Gudjonsen a bit heavy and he couldn't quite reach it. Controlled play from the visitors.
For once Johnson is beaten by a long one-two but Parker is alert enough to come across and cover the dangerous looking break of Zhirkov.
Chelsea keep possession after a corner is cleared setting up Robben for an angled shot from the edge of the box that is disappointing.
Another wonderfully brisk Chelsea break almost brings a second goal. Robben fed Gudjonson bhind a depleted CSKA rearguard, he rounded the keeper but his square ball that would have given Duff the simplest of tap ins was blocked by the trailing leg of Gusev.
Corner again comes to nothing as it is aimlessly punted in - Terry can deal with them all day and night.
Well worked move down the right from CSKA, involving Semak more than once eventually yields a cross that Parker has to clear for a corner.
Jonson adds another to his list of crunching tackles for the evening.
CSKA continue to enjoy the Lion share of the possession but every time Chelsea break they look threatening.
Corner is not properly dealt with despite Terry's best efforts and after Lampard fails to clear when he should, a shot is fired it that Cech may not have seen had it been on target. It wasn't.
The home captain Semak tries to give a quick response. Working across the 18 yard box he eventually finds space to shoot but it takes a deflection and is still rising as it sails over the bar.
Mourinho's decision to play both Duff and Robben already a success. CSKA have been on top so far so it will be interesting to see how they react now.
A perfectly wieghted slide rule ball from Robben was latched on to by Duff. He showed great awareness to instantly back-hell the return to Robben who had carried on into the box. A subtle drop of the shoulder evaded a tackle before he wrong footed the keeper by shooting low back across to the near post. Wonderful, wonderful goal.
A wonderfully crafted goal involving Duff but finishes by Robben gives Chelsea the lead. 1-0
CSKA are dominating the possession still but Chelsea carry a real goal threat when they break.
Robben, looking lively as he switches wings with Duff, cuts inside and unleashes a powerful feffort that just curls wide of the target. Well worth a try and not too far away.
A mistake from Makelele allowed Jarosik to continue a run into Chelsea's half stared deep within his own but Carvalho got his team-mate out of jail by intercepting the pass that would have put Love clear on goal.
A Makelele foul on Love about 35 yards away from goal tempts Ignashevich to shoot from the resulting free-kick. Dragged low, wide and weak.
Short corner worked out to Krasic whose curling shot was of no concern to Cech.
Another purposeful run down the left from Zhirkov tests Johnson to the full but once more the tackle is prefectly timed.
With Chelsea effectively playing 4-3-3 and CSKA 4-5-1 the Russians are dominating the midfield area.
Sharp turn on the half-way line sets Robben free. He knocks it round the last defender on the wing and crosses but no Chelsea player can take advantage.
Love is causing Chelsea problems drifting across the back line and looking lively with it.
Terry takes on in the face for the cause. A square ball helped on again found Rahimic in space, 25 yards out dead centre. His shot looked straight and true but bounced clear from Terry's mug. I bet he felt that one.
No clear chances as of yet but if it was on points you would give it to CSKA so far.
Great, purposeful run forward from defender Berezoutski needs two players and three attempts to be halted deep in Chelsea territory.
A free-kick 'won' by Robben is swung tot he near post where Terry can only help it on to space and ultimate safety.
Patient build-up play from the home side is undone when Jarosik lets a ball run under his foot for a throw-in.
A disappointing free kick from Lampard is driven into the base of the Russian's wall and when the ball is sent forward again Duff is well offside.
Another CSKA corner sees Jarosik wriggle his way into a position to head but he couldn't get the required direction on a ball that he was always stretching for.
Bright start from the home side who have already tested the Chelsea big men with a series of crosses thrown in. They look comfortable on the ball as well as they dominate the early possession.
Ball swung deep tempts Cech out of his goal and finds him flapping at it a bit to put behind.
Zhirkov is prepared to take on Johnson down the left wing but this time the Chelsea man is the equal of him. Corner conceded.
Free-kick for Chelsea well wide on the left, level with the six-yard box goes to a dangerous area but Akinfeev gathers comfortably.
Chelsea get things underway in cold, if not quite freezing conditions in the Locomotiv Stadium.
Duff and Robben start a game for Chelsea together for the first time. Vagner Love offers CSKA's main source of goals and will play alone up-front but watch out for Ivica lic coming from the bench, should he be needed.
CSKA have built there own successful start to the campaign on sound defence and, with Chelsea doing the same, there may not be many goals but still penlty of intrigue.
Roman Abramovich returns to his homeland with Chelsea needing just a point to guarantee safe passage to the knock-out stages but boss Jose Mourinho has promised his side will go for the win that would maintain a 100% record in the competition.
