Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger: I joined club because of Antonio Conte

New Chelsea signing Antonio Rudiger says the Stamford Bridge side are "a different level" than former club Roma, and has cited Antonio Conte as the biggest reason for his switch this summer.

Chelsea signed the Germany international defender from the Serie A club for a reported £34 million.

Rudiger, who was a member of his country's Confederations Cup triumph earlier this month, is with the club as they prepare for their preseason tour in China. And he told reporters in Tokyo his reasons for joining the Premier League champions.

"Not to be disrespectful but we speak about Roma and Chelsea... Chelsea is a big club," the 24-year-old said.

"Roma is a big club too, in Italy, but I think Chelsea is a different level and of course the biggest reason [for his move] was the coach, Antonio Conte.

"I played in Italy and I spoke with a couple of teammates -- for example [Daniele] De Rossi -- and he told me a lot about Antonio Conte and [his quality] is visible.

"You saw it last season, in the seasons before at Juventus and with Italy as national coach. He is a fantastic coach because he has improved a lot of players like [Marcos] Alonso and [Victor] Moses -- they played a great, great season.

"That's why I thought, 'I want to be part of that.'"
