Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante wins EA Sports Player of the Season award

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante has been named as the EA Sports Player of the Season after helping the club to the Premier League title.

Kante, who won the league with Leicester City last season, produced a succession of outstanding performances for Chelsea as Antonio Conte's side took the crown.

The EA Sports Player of the Season award is voted for by Premier League clubs, a panel of experts and a public vote among supporters.

Kante saw off competition from Eden Hazard, Cesar Azpilicueta, Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to be named the winner.

"It's a huge honour to be named player of the year by such big names in football and I want to thank everyone who voted for me," he was quoted as saying by the Premier League website.

"I work hard in training, I try to give my best and I work with so many very good players -- that's why we won the league two times."

Kante singled out the 5-0 Stamford Bridge win over Everton and the 4-0 demolition of Jose Mourinho's Manchester United, in which he scored, as memorable moments and said: "It is always good to score, and I am happy for these two games."

Earlier this month, Kante was presented with the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year award.

The France international, who joined Chelsea last summer for £32 million, was one of five Blues players nominated by the 340 FWA members, with Hazard, David Luiz, Diego Costa and Cesar Azpilicueta also receiving votes.

He collected more than 65 percent of the journalists' votes, spread over a record 17 different players.

In April, Kante was named PFA Player of the Year at a ceremony in London.

He won the award after being on a shortlist of six last season, with then-Leicester teammate Riyad Mahrez the winner.
