Celtic fan who threw burger at horse one of 14 Man City match arrests

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have said a Celtic supporter who threw a hamburger at a police horse was one of 14 people arrested in relation to Tuesday's Champions League game at Manchester City.

City drew 1-1 at home to Celtic in their final group-stage match and GMP Superintendent Craig Thompson said that, although "the fixture passed largely without incident," there were 14 arrests over the course of the day.

Detailing one incident on its Twitter account covering Manchester city centre, the force wrote: "Celtic fan arrested for throwing a hamburger at a police horse in Piccadilly Gardens. Male started kicking about in the van! #nightinacell"

In a later tweet, the force joked: "Police horse 'Lancaster' is in a stable position after burger thrown at it by Celtic fan!"

Thompson did not discuss that incident but said in a statement: "We have significant experience in policing occasions like this and sadly, as is often the case, we did experience a small number of incidents which were dealt with swiftly and resulted in a number of arrests.

"However the majority of fans were extremely well behaved and I hope everybody has a safe journey home."
