Burnley affected by soaring transfer costs, says Sean Dyche

Burnley manager Sean Dyche admits the soaring costs in this summer's transfer window are making it difficult to secure his targets.

Leicester's N'Golo Kante moving to Chelsea for £30 million just a year after joining from Caen for £7m and Bournemouth buying Liverpool's 20-year-old winger Jordon Ibe for £15m are just two deals which reflect a sharp increase in fees.

The Clarets return to the Premier League, where the team who finish last will still earn about £100m, after one season away and on their previous top-flight outing Dyche worked with the smallest budget of any club by a considerable margin.

Those limitations are making recruitment difficult with Burnley's summer spending is £3.6m so far on Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Nick Pope.

"We know who the players are, it's doing the deals, that's for the chairman to get on and do,'' Dyche told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"The market is challenging, I'm a broken record but it's the truth, it's not just us, when you see the numbers flying around it is a big challenge.

"There's certain clubs spending a lot of money, which is probably surprising in another way when people see the amounts on certain players.

"Then there are others who are sitting tight and keeping their cards close to their chest.

"We're in the middle somewhere, trying to get deals done which we think are appropriate.

"There are quite strict guidelines here as to what the board and the club want to do financially and it's very tough.

"I made it clear last time we were here, I made it clear this time and I made it clear in the Championship, it's a club that has to be run properly and that's how the board want it and it makes it very challenging, it's as simple as that.''
