Brisbane Roar sack managing director Mark Kingsman in restructuring

Brisbane Roar have sacked managing director Mark Kingsman in another off-field drama at the A-League club.

On Monday, Kingsman wrote on Twitter: "Disappointed to have my employment terminated by @brisbaneroar. Thank you everyone for your support over the past 14 months."

Australian Associated Press reported that new leadership was being lined up by the Roar's owners, Indonesian conglomerate the Bakrie Group.

It said the club had decided to dismiss Kingsman due to concerns over his performance and the impact on the Roar's financial position and general direction.

Earlier on Monday, he had told News Corp that people were "fabricating drama" about the Roar's off-field situation.

Despite Kingsman's claim to have reduced the club's debts by $1.4 million, the Roar are believed to owe hundreds of thousands of dollars to a variety of creditors.

While players and staff are being paid, reports said they had come perilously close to missing payments in recent months.

A statement on the club's official website said Kingsman's departure "is part of the Bakrie Group's restructuring plan for the club and is a decision that has not been taken lightly."

Chairman Rahim Soekasah said Kingsman "has served the club well for over a year, and we thank him for his contribution."

But he added: "As we continue to grow, our club needs greater governance and oversight with a deeper connection with our members, the business sector and the greater community in general.

"I want to see Brisbane Roar become the largest club in Australia, and we can only do this by truly engaging people."
