Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus hopes to hit full fitness in 2018

Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus is determined to recover his full fitness in 2018 as he sets his sights on the World Cup.

Germany international Reus, 28, has suffered with a succession of injuries in recent years and is currently recovering from knee surgery after sustaining a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament during the DFB Pokal final in May.

He is set to miss a significant period at the start of the season but hopes to be at his best when the Bundesliga resumes after the winter break.

Reus, who has missed every major international tournament since Euro 2012 through injury, said in Bild: "We have big plans with our new [Dortmund] coach Peter Bosz and the national team at the World Cup in Russia.

"It's my big goal to be firing on all cylinders in the New Year to be there for the crucial stages."

Reus is currently in the early stages of his latest comeback, and, according to Bild, has hired a private physio for his upcoming holidays.

Meanwhile, kicker has reported that Spain under-21 international Mikel Merino and Turkey winger Emre Mor could be sold.

The magazine reported that Merino, 22, will not join the rest of the team for their training camp in Switzerland as he is eying a permanent move away from Westfalenstadion following a disappointing first season in Bundesliga.

Mor reportedly belongs to a group of players fighting for their chance during the training camp. While impressing in parts during the recent tour of Asia, the club are said to retain doubts as to whether the 20-year-old can improve his decision-making on the pitch.
