Thomas Tuchel: New Dortmund deal should not hinge on Bayern win

Thomas Tuchel has said it would be "sad" if Borussia Dortmund's DFB Pokal win over Bayern Munich was made the main reason for giving him a new deal.

Having joined BVB on a three-year deal in summer 2015, Tuchel and the club put back talks about a new deal until the summer.

On Wednesday, Dortmund beat Bayern Munich 3-2 at the Allianz Arena, with Tuchel praised for changing to a 4-1-4-1 formation at half-time.

But speaking at his prematch news conference ahead of Saturday's match against Cologne, Tuchel said: "Everything always has an influence. Every result, every week, everything we do, it influences how we are assessed as the coaching staff."

Referring to recent speculation in Bild that Dortmund would only offer Tuchel a new deal if they won the DFB Pokal and finished third in the league, he said: "It would be sad if a new contract were down to a match at Bayern.

"I'd still be the same coach had we lost at Munich."

He added that he and the club "still have a lot of time" for talks, saying: "It's not like our contracts will expire this summer."

Tuchel has received widespread praise for his response to the attack on the Dortmund team bus two weeks ago.

On Friday, German weekly Der Spiegel reported that the suspect arrested over the attacks has denied being involved, citing the 28-year-old German-Russian's lawyer.
