Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang needs to play and score goals, not rest - Tuchel

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang needs to play -- and hopefully score -- not rest, according to his manager Thomas Tuchel.

Aubameyang, 27, endured a rotten showing by himself and his Gabonese teammates at the African Nations Cup in January, with the host country failing to qualify for the knockout rounds.

Tuchel said he did not come back very well from that experience.

The hangover has continued for the team's runaway leading scorer with 17 Bundesliga goals. Aubameyang was woeful in a 1-0 Champions League loss against Benfica on Tuesday, missing two golden opportunities from open play and one from the penalty spot to score an away goal for his team.

But Tuchel told a news conference ahead of Saturday's match against Wolfsburg that the plan is to stick with the struggling striker in the face of calls to give him rest.

"We spent a lot of time thinking about whether to give him a break against Darmstadt [last week]," Tuchel said. "He didn't come back very well from the Africa Cup of Nations.

"It would be wrong to give him a break. He is 100 percent fit.

"It's very important that Auba plays again [on Saturday] and plays for as long as he can -- and even better if he scores."
