Dortmund president Reinhard Rauball: Ban fans suspected of hooliganism

Borussia Dortmund president Reinhard Rauball has called for 90 alleged hooligans to be given nationwide stadium bans.

The fans were on two buses stopped by police on the way to Dortmund's game at Darmstadt last weekend, with officers confiscating flares, combat gloves, balaclavas and drugs.

Earlier this week, Dortmund accepted the decision to impose a partial stadium closure as a result of crowd trouble before their game against RB Leipzig.

And Rauball stressed that he hoped those detained on the way to Darmstadt would now be dealt with appropriately.

"Judicial authorities, politicians, police and the DFB [German Football Association] have rightly expressed their high expectations of Borussia Dortmund in the past few days," he told Bild.

"In return, we have the crystal-clear expectation that words will now be followed by actions and that all 90 criminal hooligans who were seized with pyrotechnics, weapons, balaclavas and drugs -- and whose personal data is now available -- will be given a nationwide stadium ban for the protection of football fans throughout Germany.

"People wouldn't understand anything else."

However, police union representative Jorg Radek told Bild that Rauball's call for a nationwide ban could be difficult to put into action because personal data is passed on to relevant authorities rather than clubs.
