Borussia Dortmund aiming high, despite key player sales - Zorc

Borussia Dortmund's targets for the new season have not changed, sporting director Michael Zorc says, despite the sales of some key figures during the close season.

Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have departed but there have been plenty of new signings too with Raphael Guerreiro, Emre Mor, Marc Bartra, Ousmane Dembele and Sebastian Rode all arriving.

Dortmund finished as runners-up in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal to Bayern Munich and reached the Europa League quarterfinals, and Zorc insists they will be aiming high again.

"We want to do the best we possibly can and that has not changed a lot," Zorc told Sport1. "In each competition we are in, we want to go as far as possible. Borussia Dortmund are always going to be a club who sees themselves in the Champions League."

Zorc also defended Dortmund's decision to allow some big names to depart, and pointed to the reinvestment in the squad as an important factor.

"With the players who have left, we had to consider whether we should sell them now or let them go on a free next year," Zorc said. "We decided to let them go now, but we've brought in a couple of exciting players."
