On June 12, the world’s eyes turn to Brazil for the start of the 20th FIFA World Cup, but the planet’s biggest football tournament will have plenty of news and views in the months leading up to it. ESPN FC’s World Cup Daily blog is the place to be:


•  England manager Roy Hodgson has said he is closely monitoring his squad options ahead of the 2014 World Cup. With a 23-man pool to be named in June, there is still time for one or two players to make a late surge for selection. Read.

•  Luis Suarez's sparkling form continued after he was again on target for Liverpool as they overcame Hull. And the Metro warns that the striker's standard of performances are an ominous sign for England, who will play Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup. Read more (Metro).

•  Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso is hopeful of being selected by Argentina head coach Alejandro Sabella when he names his 23-man squad for the competition in Brazil. "I hope I have the opportunity to again be on the national team," the 33-year-old is reported to have told Ole. Read more (Z News).

Brazilians call football 'Jogo Bonito' which translates as 'The Beautiful Game'. In 1977, the world's greatest footballer, Pele, named his autobiography 'My Life and the Beautiful Game'. The book's dedication reads: "I dedicate this book to all the people who have made this great game the Beautiful Game."
