Video: Bulgarian player banned for six games after flooring ref with body check

The Bulgarian football federation (BFU) have seen fit to ban Cherno More Varna defender Sasho Aleksandrov for a whopping six games after the volatile right-back was sent-off for doing the referee an extreme physical discourtesy during his side's 4-0 cup defeat to Levski Sofia on Sunday evening.

Having conceded a Levski penalty in the 74th minute, an irate Aleksandrov charged at the approaching referee and buffeted him to the floor with an ice hockey-style body check -- which, rather unsurprisingly, resulted in a straight red card.

After the dust settled and the subsequent ban and fine (2,500 levs/$1,700) were metered out, Alexandrov apologised to the steam-rollered official, saying: "I was ashamed when he fell. It was not on purpose.”

Hmmm. The footage appears to suggest otherwise Sasho.
