Video: Barnet winner disallowed after smoke obscures linesman's view

Barnet managed a very respectable 2-2 draw against the Conference's top side Cambridge last night, though The Bees came ridiculously close to ending the evening with all three points when George Sykes appeared to have bundled home a 92nd-minute winner for Edgar Davids' side.

Unfortunately, Sykes' unwitting super shinner was immediately chalked off after the linesman on the near side deemed that the preceding ricochet had pinged up and out of play above the Cambridge crossbar.

The problem, you see, was that a Barnet fan behind the goal had chosen the worst possible time to release a smoke canister in the terraces, with thick, backlit smoke billowing out of the stands and over the pitch -- completely obscuring the linesman's view of the scramble going on in the Cambridge six-yard box.

Unable to see properly through the cloud of dense, white smog enveloping the goalmouth, the linesman went 50/50 and signalled that the ball had gone out of play before falling to Sykes -- which was rather unfortunate as the replays then duly appeared to show otherwise...

Well played that fan!
