Sepp Blatter was at a natter with students at the Oxford Union on Tuesday morning when the FIFA president was pressed if he was a Lionel Messi or a Cristiano Ronaldo kind of guy.
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Sepp picked four-time-consecutive FIFA Ballon d'Or winner Messi as his No. 1 crush, calling the Barcelona star "a nice boy you could take home to your mother" adding that, of the two, the pouting, peacock-ish Real Madrid forward "definitely spends more time at the hairdressers."
All this after proceeding to perform the most abject impression of Ronaldo imaginable (1:50 mark of video). Yep, that really is the head of football's world governing body you're watching shuffle arhythmically across the stage, squawking like an asphyxiated parakeet.
Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo wasn't impressed by Blatter's blatherings and issued a rather snarky response to the quip by FIFA's Grand Poobah on his Facebook page, also reposting the video above for his 64 million friends to see.
Ronaldo's retort: “This video shows clearly the respect and consideration that FIFA has for me, for my club and my country. Much is explained now.
“I wish Mr. Blatter health and a long life, with the certainty that he will continue to witness, as he deserves, the successes of his favourite teams and players.”
In fairness, Blatter did apologise on Twitter:
Dear @Cristiano. I apologise if you were upset by my light-hearted answer at private event on Friday. I never meant to offend you. (1/2)— Joseph S Blatter (@SeppBlatter) October 29, 2013
I am an honorary 'socio' at Real Madrid @cristiano & explained we've many talented players in world game, including you. Best wishes. (2/2)— Joseph S Blatter (@SeppBlatter) October 29, 2013
We can't wait to see Cristiano's face get increasingly sulkier in January as he's mysteriously crowned runner-up for the fifth time on the bounce.
Should be a pout for the ages!
