Video: Kuwaiti players bully referee, ref fights back

Posted by Chris Wright

Over in the Kuwaiti Premier League on Thursday night, Al Arabi stuck a flurry of goals past Al Nasar in a 4-1 victory, the last of which came from the penalty spot in the 98th minute.

The decision to award the spot-kick to Al Nasar didn't go down well with Al Arabi players, who immediately began swarming referee Said Al Fadhli: bullying him, barking in his face, snatching at his shirt and quite literally backing him into a corner, at which point the under-siege official snapped and began fighting back.

The referee retaliated by thrusting a hand into the face of a particularly gobby Al Arabi player and knocking him to the ground, all the while flashing his red card at various guilty parties -- including a random Sheikh at the side of the pitch, who had been spouting off on the touchline.

It's hard to feel anything other than admiration for this referee, standing his ground while being mercilessly harangued from all quarters. Good on him, we say.
