Video: Vidal trips on Bernabeu turf, appeals for penalty

It seems that for many an inscrutable footballer in this day and age, Plan A is to watch for the white line of the 18-yard box pass beneath your feet and merely surrender all bodily vigour to the whim of gravity, then plead expectantly with the referee until your penalty is administered.

Juventus "hardman" Arturo Vidal could be found taking that particular ethos to absurd levels Wednesday night. During the second half of the Bianconeri's Champions League loss to Real Madrid, the Chilean rushed into the box, evaded Asier Illarramendi, and tripped after making a divot in the Bernabeu turf trying to get off a shot.

Ridiculously, he immediately demanded a penalty for this heinous act of grass-based obstruction.

Sigh. . .
