Video: Thunderous 45-yard goal lights up FA Cup qualifying

Posted by Chris Wright

Only playing because of an injury to St Neots Town's first-choice centre-back, 23-year-old stand-in defender Rene Steer scored what just might already be the goal of this season's FA Cup when he slammed home an equaliser against Canvey Island in a second qualifying-round fixture Tuesday evening.

With a clearance bouncing loose out of the Canvey Island penalty area, Steer began his run-up and met the ball with righteous force from around 45 yards out -- clouting it past the helpless keeper and in off the crossbar which, in turn, was almost torn from its moorings ...

Sonic ... BOOOOM!!!

Unfortunately for Steer and the rest of the St Neots chaps (who play in the Southern Conference, in case you were wondering), Canvey Island went on to score again to win 2-1. The fixture was a replay of a 2-2 draw the previous Saturday.

Still, what a bloody goal!
