Video: Groningen player faints after being shown straight red card

Different players react in different ways to receiving red cards, whether it be the incredulous shrug, the incessant pleading, a tantrum of flailing limbs or the classic "storm straight down the tunnel and kick the dressing room door off it's hinges."

But FC Groningen defender Timo Letschert took it one stage further after being given his marching orders against Heerenveen at the weekend.

Having steamed in and wiped out Heerenveen winger Luciano Slagveer at knee-level using nothing but his own face, Letschert was shown a straight red after just 11 minutes.

The groggy Groningen centre-back then spent a couple of seconds professing his innocence before keeling over and fainting on the spot as he attempted to wobble off the pitch ...

Letschert was duly handed a three-game ban for his full-tilt forehead-first assault on Slagveer's kneecaps, though he's planning to appeal the decision by all accounts.

Just as soon as he comes to again.
