Video: Di Canio gets expected reaction at Harper's Newcastle testimonial

Last week, Newcastle United published the stellar squad lists for Steve Harper's 20-year testimonial game Wednesday, with the likes of Alan Shearer, Peter Beardsley, David Ginola and Les Ferdinand all set to turn out against an AC Milan legends side that would include Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi and Zvonimir Boban among many others.

However, for obvious reasons, one name the Premier League side decided not to advertise beforehand was that of Paolo Di Canio. Thus, when the Sunderland boss was announced as the Milan side emerged from the tunnel before the match, the 50,000-plus Geordies inside St James' Park erupted into a universal chorus of boos as the Black Cats manager was "welcomed" onto the pitch.

Di Canio responded by blowing kisses to his adoring public, but then was nobbled by a particularly robust Joey Barton tackle, much to the enjoyment of the partisan home crowd.

However, the Italian had the last laugh, successfully converting in the shootout (after Harper missed his kick) as Milan ran out as eventual winners after the game -- a little disappointingly -- finished 0-0 after 90 minutes...
