Video: The spirit of fair play is alive and well in Peru

Posted by Chris Wright

Sorry, did we say the spirit of fair play was alive and well? We meant "weeping for mercy while being punched repeatedly in the face".

Over in the Peruvian top flight on Sunday, Union Comercio 'keeper Johnny Vegas (sadly, we don't think it's the Johnny Vegas) tweaked a muscle while scooping up a loose ball against CF Cesar Vallejo and, as the game came to a natural halt, lay down on the floor in obvious pain.

Just then, realising that the referee hadn't actually blown his whistle to officially stop play, 34-year-old Vallejo striker Piero Alva scampered in and did this...

Straight out of the Luiz Adriano playbook that one! What a bloody scoundrel! Let the world know that Piero Alva is a cad, an oaf, a rotter, a bounder and a mountebank in the extreme.

After the game, severely narked Union 'keeper Vegas told the local media: "I thought about hitting [Alva] and retiring from football".

We don't think anyone could've blamed him.
