Everyone's favourite footballing pop pseud Joey Barton is yet to make his debut for Marseille due to that pesky ol' 12-match ban hovering over him, but that didn't stop him taking to the pitch for l'OM in a friendly against Ligue 2 side FC Istres on Tuesday - and it didn't take him long to make his mark... on his opponents' fleshy bits, that is.
Having provided a rather lovely arching throughball for Loic Remy to score the opening goal in a 1-1 draw, Barton ended the afternoon with a specialty that will be altogether more familiar to English fans, flooring Istres' Guy-Roland Niangbo with a rash, lunging 'piggy-back judo takedown' tackle - a tackle Istres coach Jose Pasqualetti deemed 'unacceptable':
"[Barton] will have to be careful. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable in Ligue 1.
"It was a dangerous tackle but we were well aware of Joey Barton, don't worry about that! By contrast, when Barton plays at the Velodrome with its raucous atmosphere, he will probably go crazy! They'll be red cards all over the place!"
Sadly, no video footage of the tackle exists as far as we know, but Marseille have taken it upon themselves to upload a clip of Barton's rather lovely assist...
Not bad, not bad at all.
