International Saints return in good shape
Adam Lallana's late call up to the England squad meant that Saints had five players still on International duty for the midweek fixtures.
Maya Yoshida made it two clean sheets and two full appearances in a row as Japan beat Iraq 1-0 in an Asian 4th round World Cup qualifying fixture while Nathaniel Clyne played the second half of England U21's victory over Norway in a European Championships qualifier.
For Saints fans there was suddenly a much bigger interest in goings on at Wembley on Tuesday night as Lallana, sporting the number 18 shirt was named on the England bench. Roy Hodgson's men stuttered to a 1-1 draw against Ukraine and Lallana was unfortunately, but perhaps unsurprisingly (having not even trained with the squad) unused.
Steven Davis was in his usual position of captain for Northern Ireland's 1-1 draw with Luxembourg in their World Cup game and later in the evening Gaston Ramirez started for Uruguay and played the whole game, picking up a booking in the process as they were also held to a 1-1 draw by Ecuador (not a Delgado in sight).
So a positive international week in all for the Saints contingent, let's hope they come back to St Mary's fresh legged and ready for Arsenal!
