EA Sports' 'FIFA 13' to determine final MLS All-Star forward

Fifa 13Fans will be able to pick an MLS All-Star by playing "FIFA 13."

Online and social media voting are old news when it comes to fan engagement for Major League Soccer's All-Star Fan XI.

MLS will become the first professional sports league to determine an All-Star roster spot by way of video game. Electronic Arts and MLS are giving fans the chance to place one forward into the game based on goals scored in EA Sports' popular "FIFA Soccer 13."

Every goal scored by one of the 26 eligible forwards through Wednesday will be recorded as a vote for that player, provided users are online. The player with the most votes will be the final forward named to All-Star Fan XI, which includes 10 already selected through voting online and via text message and Twitter.

The "In The Game" forward picked through "FIFA 13" will be announced Thursday.

All-Star Fan XI pits the MLS All-Stars against AS Roma at 9 p.m. July 31 at Kansas City's Sporting Park. ESPN2 will televise the game.
