Samba the pick of a transfer window bonanza

Chris Samba will be awesome prospect and, unlike the rumours going around, he is not being paid £100,000-a-week. To me it is a genuine surprise that one of the big four were not in for Samba when Blackburn Rovers were forced to offload him last season - it may have turned his head away from the Russian roubles being dangled in front of him.

QPR were certainly not in the running at the time, but the club spoke to him then - did the groundwork - and as soon as he expressed a preference for the Premier League, that groundwork paid off.

To have lost Ryan Nelsen was a blow, but to replace him with the colossally talented Samba is good business - and the type of signing that helps Harry Redknapp continue the good work on keeping the goals out.

Of course, Loic Remy was bought in to score the goals to keep QPR up but he can't do it on his own and adding to the support structure around him - that last week was pretty much Adel Taarabt on his own - has been key.

Harry went back to his old club to pick up two players - although you get the sense that he really only wanted Andros Townsend, but Tottenham insisted in throwing in Jermaine Jenas. Daniel Levy is a funny fella to deal with.

In Townsend, you can see where Harry is coming from. He's lightning quick, not afraid to get stuck in, and really appreciates the team ethic: in his first interview he highlighted Ryan Nelsen and Clint Hill as having the right work ethic.

The only reason Townsend is not a regular for Spurs is because he has Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale ahead of him, which in itself is a glowing indictment.

Jenas could be a useful squad player if he can get some consistency, after a niggly spell of injuries pretty much put paid to his Tottenham career and made his latest loan move - to Nottingham Forest - a bit of a nightmare.

The final signing is Yun Suk-Young, the Korean left-back. An interesting one this: he has been on the radar of a number of top European clubs, including AC Milan, so it is a bit of coup to get him. At 22, he will be a cracking edition for the future.

But what pleased me most was one or two that did not leave Loftus Road during the window. The chatter about Julio Cesar being a target for a number of Premier League clubs was a bit nervy, as his loss would have been calamitous, but he has stayed to help the club out. He will be crucial.

And well done Junior Hoilett. Asked if he would go to West Brom he flatly refused, which QPR may have cause to celebrate in the coming months. At 22-years-old he is not the complete article, but he has shown that he is capable of being a real fixture for QPR in the future.
