QPR continue to wipe history with Faurlin exit

The latest transfer window is fast becoming a therapy session for QPR, or at the very least an opportunity to distance itself from past painful memories.

Already out of the door is Anton Ferdinand, which puts to bed that nasty business with John Terry. And now Alejandro Faurlin is on his way to Palermo, on a free transfer with a view to a permanent move, ending our association with one of our darkest moments.

It was, of course, the transfer papers of an entirely innocent Faurlin that almost cost us a Championship title and our place in the Premier League. Faurlin, perhaps unlike Ferdinand, managed to play well through his controversy and was instrumental in a run-in that saw us creep over the line.

We all so wanted Ale to do well in the Premier League, he was our standout player before Adel Taarabt arrived and always looked capable of cutting it.

Alas, it wasn't to be. A cruciate ligament injury against MK Dons in the FA Cup ended what had been a hit-and-miss first six months in the top flight.

He never got back to where he was from there. The influx of new players coupled with the aftermath of his knee injury saw to that. His departure means realistically there is only one skeleton left in the closet: Rob Hulse.

Hulse played just 22 times for the club and was not named in any Premier League squad. But after repeated attempts to persuade him otherwise he has steadfastly refused to be moved on, happily cashing a fat pay cheque awarded for his inconsiderable help in achieving promotion.

That contract expires in June this year, and I would warn any club against signing the 31-year-old who is the epitomy of the modern footballer: greedy with little love for the game itself.
