Nelsen exit leaves a hole in a brittle defence

The New Zealand international has been given an offer he just can't refuse at his stage of his career - a coveted head coach role in a league that is substantial without the ridiculous pressure associated with positions in England.
Toronto FC will find they have a studious individual who will give his all for their cause - we wish him all the success in the world.
Despite the fact that any loss of Nelsen will leave a huge gap in the centre of QPR's defence, it is difficult to begrudge him. Nelsen was bought in by Mark Hughes as simple cover at the tail end of his career. The gentleman's agreement was that he was likely to play maybe a dozen games a season.
Since it became clear that Hughes was going to be unable to find a first choice centre-back, Nelsen has been a fixture at the back - no mean feat considering our form. The Kiwi has been a rock in exceptional circumstances - a rare bright light in a very dark period for the club.
"They understand that when I play I am playing on glass knees and glass ankles. It is a bit of a struggle," Nelsen said. "They know I am at the end but they also know the predicament they are in. It is a major predicament."
With the MLS season not starting until March, QPR have probably not seen the last of Nelsen. He will be in the side against Tottenham - and maybe beyond. Which gives Harry Redknapp the opportunity to replace him seamlessly in the January transfer window.
Whatever, I expect a fitting tribute from fans on Saturday lunchtime.
