Thiago Silva to make PSG debut against Dynamo Kiev

With six points from their last two Ligue 1 games, Paris Saint-Germain enter their opening Champions League encounter with Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday night in improving form. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has bagged five goals in four games so far this season, the capital club are up to fourth place in the early season table and coach Carlo Ancelotti has yet to even field one of his most expensive summer signings yet in Brazilian defender Thiago Silva.

However, that could all change on Tuesday as Mamdou Sakho will not participate in the opening Group A clash and Ancelotti confirming that Silva is in line to play. Dutch right-back Gregory Van der Wiel will have to wait a little longer for his debut and teenage sensation Adrien Rabiot will not be making his Champions League bow.

Ancelotti has been further deprived of the services of Italian midfielder Thiago Motta who was injured in training on Monday, leaving him with a choice between an ever improving Marco Verratti, youngster Clement Chantome, recently recovered Momo Sissoko and Mathieu Bodmer in the midfield. Ezequiel Lavezzi is expected to return to the attack after completing his domestic suspension following his red card against Ajaccio in week two.

The Sakho injury comes as a particular blow given how the French international was coming into such a rich vein of form. A solid start to the season with PSG was then complimented by two impressive performances in France's opening two World Cup qualifiers where he paired up with Montpellier's Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa. Sakho and Silva is surely the centre-back pairing that Ancelotti had in mind when the Brazilian arrived and given Alex's shaky start to the season, Sakho is the natural partner of choice for the former AC Milan man.

Instead though, the world's most expensive defender will likely be partnered by his compatriot on his debut with Ancelotti having to be patient until Sakho returns. Despite a good showing for France against Belarus last week, PSG captain Christophe Jallet's form has suffered for les Rouges-et-Bleus in recent weeks and the signing of Van der Wiel indicates that right-back is a position that the club's hierarchy felt needed improvement. With the Dutchman settling in following his move from Ajax, perhaps PSG's next group game at Porto in a fortnight is a more realistic target for the 24-year old.

Ibrahimovic has already been championing the squad's potential ahead of the Kiev clash and believes that PSG's time at the summit of European football has come. Speaking to the press ahead of the game he said:

"I have played in the Champions League every year and in different colours. Today is the beginning of a new adventure for the team. People respect us, this team is hungry and has the potential to succeed. In just a few weeks here I have seen a clear evolution. "

"Kiev are a very good team. They have been in the competition every year and causes their opponents problems. I know some of them from when Sweden played Ukraine this summer in the Euros. I know it will not be easy."

'Ibra' and PSG take on Dynamo Kiev at the Parc des Princes at 20h45 on Tuesday evening as the capital club return to the top table of European football for the first time in eight years.
