There have been issues obtaining him a work permit and Mourinho told reporters, "For a 17-year-old boy, sooner or later, the committee has to give him a permit to play in England."

16:00 BST: Dutch international full-back Daryl Janmaat has told Sky Sports News he is aware of interest in him from Inter Milan but has not had word of any concrete offers as yet. The Feyenoord defender scored three times and set up five goals in 39 appearances last season.

A report in The Sun regarding the record bid tabled by Madrid follows that of Spanish newspaper Marca, which claims Bale has told Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that he wants out of White Hart Lane. The winger was apparently told by his current employers that they would accept a mind-blowing offer from Real if it came in - but that is evidently not the case. Should the £81 million deal go ahead, it would eclipse the previous record of Real buying Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in July 2009.
Speaking of ludicrous amounts of money, Manchester City's spending spree under new boss Manuel Pellegrini seems set to continue. The Daily Mirror states that comments from Pellegrini about expanding his squad pertain to City's quest to sign Real Madrid defender Pepe. Pellegrini is said to view the Portugal international as the final piece in his puzzle, as City aim to reclaim the Premier League title back from rivals United.
However, City are believed to be fighting to hold on to Edin Dzeko and Aleksandar Kolarov. The Daily Mail reports Galatasaray and Juventus are eyeing Kolarov, while Tottenham are keen on signing Dzeko. The pair struggled for game time last season, but Pellegrini is eager to keep them at Eastlands to ensure he has a strong squad to select from.
